President Obama Head Planter

President Obama Head Planter, Container Garden.png

On the first day of the IGC Show I spotted what looked like, from a distance,  a head pot of former President George W. Bush. The second day of the show I made sure to get a close-up view of the head planter in question and was surprised to learn that the head was actually of President Barack Obama.

When the artist, Michael Gentilucci, who makes various head planters with his wife, Alisa, told me that it was President Obama I remembered that Walgreens pulled the Chia Obama from store shelves after getting complaints. The Gentiluccis were unfamiliar with the story of the first attempt to bring the 44th president into the gardening world by Chicago native and Chia founder, Joseph Pedott. Michael said he understood why the Chia Obama was removed because it was "offensive."

Gentilucci scoffed at my comparison of the Obama head planter to the Chia Obama, noting that this was a sculpture and not a caricature. The Obama head planter comes in Antique, Classic, Sedona and Old Stone colors and is designed for an outdoor garden. So far there have been no complaints about the Obama head planter and not even a hint that it is becoming a must-have item among cheeky conservatives.  If you'd like to add an Obama head planter to your garden it will set you back $149.00 on the couple's website.

I don't feel so bad about not being able to correctly identify the Obama head planter.  Alisa Gentilucci told me it was mistaken for George Washington at another garden show.

Interesting-looking planter! Frankly I think the Chia Obama looked more like Obama though, or at least the "serious" version did. I almost bought one... still might!

Haha, I want one too. The "determined" model I believe it is called.

Hmmm. . . it does look a little like him closer up.

I wish they hadn't taken the Chia pet off the shelves. I don't really 'get' what the big deal was about it. Some people have no sense of humor.

During the primaries I couldn't resist getting a Hilary nutcracker when I came across it. (nothing personal, just thought it was funny.)

You know, I think it looks more like him in the picture they have on their website than the one I took. In the pic above it looks like Nelson Mandela to me. I keep looking at it and thinking it reminds me of Jimmy Carter for some reason. Maybe it is the sort of serene expression on his face.

I still say from the third floor and looking down on it it looked like GWB.

Remind me to plant kudzu in my Obama planter and put it around the ACORN and SEIU headquarters. It's no wonder you thought the Obama bust looked like GWB, progressivism has infiltrated both parties.

Kudzu? Really?

I was going to say it looked like Jimmy Carter to me...

Ok, glad to know I'm not along in thinking it looked like Jimmy Carter.

That is too funny. I can see why you might have thought it was George W. Bush at first glance. What will they think of next? I also love how the website informs us that it works for any style garden.

Hey Amanda Penny, Thanks for signing up for an account to comment. Yeah, I got a giggle from that too.
