McBride's and Brown's Options Picked Up; Myrie selected in Expansion Draft

Hey everyone, I finally made it to Detroit and I have a couple of updates to share with you all...

McBride and Brown -- Back for 2010

The Fire announced today that the club options for both Brian McBride and C.J. Brown have been picked up -- meaning that both will be back with the club for the 2010 season.

Both moves give Fire fans a little extra to be thankful for this weekend, as both Brown and McBride provide solid play on the field with great veteran leadership in the locker room.

"We are pleased to have both Brian and C.J. back with the team for 2010," said Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas. "McBride is a force on the field and his experience is unmatched by many in MLS. He will play another invaluable role for us in 2010. C.J.'s contributions in 2009 were key in helping us to reach the Eastern Conference Championship Final this season. We need them both back on the pitch to help lead us toward a MLS Cup championship."

The move does a lot to shore up concerns of what the Fire's attack and back line would look like for 2010. As of now, we can go ahead and pencil in McBride up top and C.J. in the center of the back four in the opening day starting 11 -- something that will undoubtedly reassure Fire fans (and players...) heading into 2010.

Myrie selected by Philadelphia in Expansion Draft

David Myrie's short tenure with the Fire came to a close today, as the expansion Philadelphia Union used one of their 10 selections to pick up the 21-year-old Costa Rican defender.

Myrie, who was signed by the Fire on September 15th of this year, didn't see playing time in any of the club's matches.

The move comes as a bit of a surprise to me -- especially considering that Peter Nowak and the Union staff couldn't have had a whole lot to go off of when scouting Myrie. I'm interested to see how he does in Philly though and it's a bit of a shame that the Fire signed him to a deal and never even put him on the field.

I like McBride as a person, but his presence on the field slows the play and hinders us from using our speedy forwards. Maybe they can stick McBride in the midfield. The signing makes absolutely no sense to me. Use the money on some younger, faster players. C.J. is a great signing in my eyes. He really solidifies the defense.

I expect McBride and Nyarko will be up top, I figure as Patrick gets more minutes, BMB can only help his game.
Losing BMB and Blanco at the same time would be too much. And we will see how the new coach might utilize players, by line up, by scoring opportunities. Not too long ago people were calling for CJ to retire, I am really happy to have both these vets on the squad.

I guess it makes sense to keep both McBride and CJ for the veteran leadership and to offer some stability to a host of what probably will be young players for 2010. CJ did a great job in stabilizing our defense this past year but frankly BMB truly faded out of the picture after May--injury or no injury. Perhaps that was the way that he was used or the tactics employed but he didn't provide me with much hope that he was only a shadow of himself the last half of the season after he came back from his surgery. CJ's slot allowed him to use his knowledge of the game to succeed but a striker's job is to put the ball in the net which BMB did not do after May. Best wishes to both, though, and I hope they do well next season.

The Mayrie move looks very "convenient".
Jin dobre Klopas this is Nowak, there is this talent I would like can we park him at the Fire then we will give you one our draft picks. He will not count as a DP since you acquired him through a development player.

So you would rather have Caitlin up top with Nyarko? McBride is not a lone striker like he was used with the Menace. He needs a player like Rolfe or Nyarko to run off of his flicks. If the new coach plays a 4-5-1 im going to shoot myself. I would love to see the new manager drop Pause and play Ward in his spot.

Maybe Klopas signed him for Novak? hehe... ok - thats reading too far into it. Obviously, somebody thinks this David Myrie can play, that's why he's been selected by the Union.

Anyway, glad Banner is still around. That was a good non pick.

o shut up. Mcbride is immortal and whether you like it or not doesnt matter hes a legend and can never ever be replaced.
