Ask Denis Hamlett

user-pic

I'll be interviewing Fire Head Coach Denis Hamlett tomorrow and I wanted to open the floor for you guys to pose some questions.

Try and get your questions in before 11 a.m. tomorrow and I'll do my best to get them answered. I'll be starting the interview around 1 p.m. tomorrow so I should have a Mid-Week Update post up around 3 or 4.

I'll be back tomorrow morning with another piece before the Mid-Week update though, so be sure to come back and check that out. Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday.

Does DH feel this is a must win game on Saturday in order for him to be renewed for next year?

Will the team play more aggressive being a goal down?
If Fire gets lucky and scores while holding Revs to a no score and we go to PKs who will take them?
Do you feel you’ve done enough to go on to conference final?
In your opinion who is the best player on the team?

What changes will you make strategy wise to create more chances on goal to overcome the 1 goal deficit, in order to beat the Revs?

Why did you pull Rolfe out of Sundays Game against the Revs, when he was clearly one of the more productive players on the field?

If we go to PK's against New England will Justin Mapp and Mike Banner take a turn?

why didn't he start Conde, Thorrington, Segares, or Blanco in the game? what reason could possibly outweigh a playoff game?

Patrick--Blanco did start right behind McBride. Conde stayed home with a migraine (I am really getting the impression he either doesn't want to play or he and DH had a disagreement. He has had a hamstring excuse, the flu, and now a migraine.) Thorrington and Segares are neither game fit and Segares looked pretty rusty although his intensity was good when he came in. He made some pretty questionable decisions a few times. So out of the four you mentioned, Segares was probably the one who was best able to play. While I don't agree often with DH, he seems to have realized that we may need them for a BIGGER game this weekend and didn't want to risk injury to a fatigued player who wasn't match fit. In reality, JT adds very little to this team technically and at times creates more issues than he solves with mindless tackles and retaliations. I am definitely not a fan of Baggio's and I am still confused over why DH has refused to put Lowry back on the pitch as a starter or a reserve. He hasn't started or played since he scored two goals in a game. He would be my choice over either Baggio or JT right now. Btw, Peter is not the first player to have this happen to him this year.

Thanks, but still, with the two old men up front(no disrespect to Brian McBride and not too much to Blanco, but they're like 36. all the other players are 29.) there'es absolutely no speed for any breakaway chance in the final third. Rolfe should start up front and Blanco, Pappa, Mapp, and Lowry, Thor, or Pause in the midfield. I think you're right about Conde, it seems a bit odd for a player who looks that tough on the field. We probably aren't going to get to a bigger game now, considering the loss on Saturday and how we have been absolutely abysmal in the past two months.

I guess I am hopeful that now that we will be on a natural field that is full-size, it will allow us to play our game. In NE, they have a crummy turf field and it isn't even truly regulation in size--it is both short and narrow. Hopefully, the Fire will come out and open the play up and down the wings to spread out that defense and help neutralize Shalrie. If that happens, our skill players are definitely better than theirs and we can attack. DH really has little choice at this point but to allow them to do that.

Can Denis give us any insight into who will be his replacement for next year? We all would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Has Denis felt a greater challenge keeping the players in focus, considering the drastic roster changes that are imminent?

What is his favorite protein shake flavor; strawberry, vanilla, or chocolate?
Which is his favorite English Premier team? And why?
If he could play in the EPL which team would he play for?
If he could coach in the EPL which team?
Who supplies his wardrobe?

What size Magic Eight-Ball does he use to determine player substitutions?
Has he ever watched a professional soccer match?
If he aware that the team with more goals generally wins the game?
How much does Fire management and MLS pay himon the side to let Blanco onto the pitch?

Will Denis start Pappa, Mapp and Rolfe in order to WIN by 2 goals? If he won't, why not?
