USA v Mexico

Hey everybody, wanted to pass along a few bits of MLS news before Friday comes to a close and the weekend really gets going.

Two pretty big names in North American soccer made the move from Europe to MLS today as U.S. National Team defender Heath Pearce joined FC Dallas and Canadian National Team star midfielder Julian DeGuzman -- formerly of La Liga's Deportivo La Coruña -- returned to his hometown to join Toronto FC as the club's first ever Designated Player.

Pearce comes to Dallas after spending two years in Germany with second division side Hansa Rostock, where he fell out of favor last season. FCD was able to sign Pearce due to their top spot in MLS's allocation order. DeGuzman comes to Toronto after spending the last 9 years in Europe, where he was named Deportivo's player of the year in 2007-08.

Toronto's signing of DeGuzman is the bigger signing of the day and the central midfielder should give TFC's playoff hopes a bigtime boost. The Fire will see DeGuzman for the first time on September 26th, when he and his TFC teammates travel to Toyota Park to take on the Fire. I'm already looking forward to seeing him in action and his addition to the roster gives Toronto a pretty formidable midfield -- as he'll slide in alongside Dwayne DeRosario, Sam Cronin, and Amado Guevara.
