C.J. Brown injury update

C.J. Brown

As many of you have noted, Fire center back C.J. Brown got a little nicked up during Sunday's match against Colorado. The injury was sustained in the first half of the match, when Brown and keeper Jon Busch collided in mid-air following a Colorado cross.

"Buschy wanted to beat up on a big guy for once so he chose me," said Brown with a laugh. "It's a bruise right now so we'll see. It's tough to get knees and elbows in the rib cage -- I don't mind if [Busch] does it if he wins the ball but if he doesn't win the ball then I have issues with him."

Despite picking up the knock, C.J. didn't seem worried when I asked if he would be good to go for Saturday's match against D.C.

"I think [I'll be ready]," said the Fire captain. "We've got some good doctors and some good trainers that will take care of me."

So definitely some good news on this front. Hopefully Wilman Conde (who is dealing with that on again, off again hamstring issue) will be ready to rejoin C.J. in the back by the time Saturday rolls around -- otherwise the Fire will have some issues at centerback.

If Conde (or C.J. for that matter) is unable to go, expect Mike Banner and Austin Washington to start as outside backs and Brandon Prideaux to slide into the middle.

Ready or not, if we don't win on Saturday I think you can count off the Supporter's Shield. We need to win, but i don't know if we can with this battered defense. Not looking good, for us or hamlett considering how much better we'd be with baky.

Prideaux - CJ - Conde - Washington - 1 goal allowed?
Banner - CJ/Conde - Prideaux - Washington - 3 goals allowed?
Banner - Prideaux - Washington - Thor? - 5 goals allowed?

This could be ugly. I hope Rolfe and Nyarko get their rest Friday night.

CJ is now one of the most important pieces to this team's success. I was watching last game, and although he doesn't run the entire field as well as Dasan, he is much more stout in the back line than everybody other than Conde.
