The Sporting News released their 2009-10 college basketball preview last week. It contains some very bold predictions. Which ones will comes true?
As I've previously done with Lindy's and Athlon here is everything TSN wants Chicago readers to know.
Of course, even though the magazine contains some accolades for Northwestern (and forward Kevin Coble) the cover features Illinois' Demetri McCamey and Ohio State's Evan Turner.
One of the boldest predictions? DePaul's position in the Big East. TSN picked the Blue Demons to finish ahead of Providence.

Sportings News' College Basketball Predictions
Starting Off:
- No Chicago teams or players are in the Top 25 or any of the special sections. But the magazine gets interesting on page 14-15. That's where Mike DeCourcy's 2010 NCAA Tournament is selected. Northwestern is a #12 seed along with Memphis, BYU and San Diego State. Possible opponents would include Ohio State, Clemson, Wake Forest and Notre Dame. (If this scenario actually played out, the Wildcats would probably face one of the two ACC teams seeing as they play ND this season and are in the same conference as the Buckeyes.)
- DePaul is picked 15th in the Big East in front of Providence and just behind Rutgers and South Florida. The Blue Demons' recruiting class is ranked last. The only superlative DePaul receives is "Coach on the hot seat" for Jerry Wainwright.
- Northwestern is picked 7th in the Big Ten. The Wildcats are behind Michigan and Minnesota and just in front of Wisconsin and Penn State. Coble is on the All-Big Ten Team. Also, Bill Carmody picks up the superlative for "Most likely to draw a technical," high praise in conference that includes Tom Crean and Tom Izzo. Northwestern's recruiting class is ranked 10th in front of only Ohio State - which didn't recruit a single player.
- UIC is picked 5th in the Horizon League, but since the preview mentions Tori Boyd and Spencer Stewart as major contributors without any reservations, it was probably written early in the summer. Loyola-Chicago is picked 9th in the Horizon League. The Flames' recruiting class is picked 6th and the Ramblers' follows in 7th place.
- Chicago State is picked 5th in the Great West Conference. Carl Montgomery was left off of the All-Big West Team - a huge slight - by TSN and Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News who wrote the preview. Montgomery was picked as the Great West player of the year by Lindy's.
