Tyrus Thomas selected for Jefferson award

I didn't want to let this one get swept under the rug.   Tyrus Thomas has been selected for the Jefferson award for all of his good deeds and charity work.

Tyrus clearly donates his time and money to an incredible degree for community service.   Especially when helping out children.   Whenever you see a Bulls charity event, Tyrus is almost always there, and he's creating his own foundation and running his own events.

What's really amazing about this though is that Tyrus is often thought of as a jerk.   This guy's really giving out in an extraordinary amount of his time/money for good deeds, but he gets very little credit for it.

I think it's the nature of the fan to ignore everything about a player outside of his production, but it's a sad part of the fan.  We always forget these guys are people too.

Anyway, nice job Tyrus, keep up the good work.

It's sad to see people characterize him on the court and off the court; but, knowingly, the same individuals don't acknowledge this side of him. Those people are Pitiful, indeed.

He's done more than the average critic. Keep it up T-Time!

And as much as people dog him...the Bulls have really missed him the last 3 games plus. I cant wait for him to get back on the court so we can see if he is going to be worth keeping or what kind of PF we can get for him...Camby? Boozer?

Bulls have missed him big time though it's unlikely his presence gives us a win in one of those last three games, but it might have kept us competitive.

Keep your money Tyrus because you wont be in the league for much longer.

I bet Tyrus signs for at least 25 million next summer.

Well that's a pretty bold bet in my opinion. There's a reasonable chance he signs either the QO or just a shorter deal. Drew Gooden signed a 3 year, 24 million buck deal in search of bigger money later. Wilcox too. Worked out terribly. But they still did it. Trying to guess contract of non-max players is a fool's game, imo.

It's not a gimmie bet, but I think it's reasonable to assume he gets 25 million or more. There is a chance he signs for only three years though and takes less money.

I think he could get a full MLE from someone if he wants for sure though.

God please let it be with another team. You think he doesnt hustle or play hard all the time imagine him with a nice little contract, forget it folks.

Except for the fact that it means catastrophic failure in the 2010 plan, I would love to have Tyrus on an MLE contract.

Tyrus is good enough to be in the league until his athleticism runs dry...that should be a while.

It's almost funny to see how different Tyrus is when caught interacting with teammates or fans (especially kids), compared to when he's interacting with the media. Hopefully the team will make sure he gets plenty of good pub from this.

And congrats to him on a well-deserved award!

He's definitely not a media savvy guy, but I don't blame athletes for distrusting the media. The media focuses on negative stories because people want to read negative stories.
