July 1, 2009 -- The Chicago Bulls announced today that Randy Brown has been hired as Director of Player Development. In accordance with club policy, terms of the contract were not announced.
"We are excited to have Randy back in the Bulls organization in his role as Director of Player Development," said Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman. "In this new role, Randy will work with players before and after practice, overseeing on-court skills development. As a former player and coach in our league, I feel Randy's experience will be of great benefit to our young players in numerous areas of their development."

Randy Brown hired as Director of Player Development
Hooray! Randy Brown's back!
Brown was an assistant coach with the Kings last year, but was let go at the end of the year along with most of the rest of the coaching staff.
However, Brown most notably made the headlines last season for being declared bankrupt, and being ordered by a judge to auction his three championship rings in order to pay off his debts. He lost his home and his cars as well, yet nothing as irreplacable as the rings.
Bidding closed on the rings back in May, and they sold for $53,333 according to that link. Who bought them is unclear - presumably a private collector - but if an ex-Bulls teammate of Brown had bought them and given them back to him, that would be a pretty fantastic human interest story.
If the Bulls bought them back for him as a part of the deal to hire him, that would be even better.

this guy would be worth trying to steal away from Portland.
he is dynamic and a good spot up-spread the D for Rose kind of player!
he could be the 6'6" shooting guard that could fit well paired with Rose.

Yep, saw that too. And as you were posting that comment, I was writing this:

If we get Fernandez for Hinrich, I'll forget all about Gordon. It also makes some sense for Portland who get a starter for a backup, just like we would be doing.
