Bears Beat up on Browns

The Bears did what everyone expected them to do, they beat up on the hapless Cleveland Browns, 30-6.  The defense looked like the Bears defense of old, but it's hard to judge where they stand after beating up on such an overmatched opponent.   Check out this highlight package:

The Browns offense set football back a few decades with such a pitiful performance.  The defense should be ashamed to even have let the Browns score.  The defense had 5 takeaways, including an interception returned for a touchdown by Charles Tillman.  That'll help that poor turnover margin they had coming into the game.

The biggest disappointment from Sunday's victory had to be the offensive performance.  If you didn't get to see the game, you might wonder why putting up 30 points is such a disappointment.

Jay Cutler will need to spend some of his new contract money on a big hot tub or a private masseuse because that kid got the snot beat out of him. Jay was sacked 4 times, but that hardly tells the tale of how many hits Jay took.  The worst was a shot under the chin that will certainly draw a fine and left Cutler with a fat lip and a bloody tongue.

If the Bears offensive line doesn't improve and quickly, they are going to get their prized quarterback killed.  Josh Beekman started at left guard, but that didn't solve the line's woes.  The running game got it going a bit, but that might have more to do with the Browns 31st ranked rush defense.

The offensive shortcomings in the red zone continued, but at least they were able to convert a few Robbie Gould field goals and Matt Forte was able to get in the end zone a couple of times.

The Bears had better get their offense tuned up before next week.  The high-powered Arizona Cardinals offense rolls into Soldier Field next Sunday.  Don't count on Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin to put out the kind of effort that Derek Anderson's Browns did.  Plenty more coverage at Bear Goggles On and back here throughout the week.
