Final Score: Bears 10 Bengals 45

Welcome to Bears Game Day.  In case you're new here, where have you been?  We've been doing this for the first 5 games already!  Get with it!!!  That's OK;  forgive you.

My name is Mike Burzawa and I'm the lead blogger at Bear Goggles On, the Chicago Bears blog on the fantastically awesome  Fansided Sports Network

I'll be your master of ceremonies for today's action between the Bears and the surprising Cincinnati Bengals.  (That is the last time I plan on typing out Cincinnati - I keep thinking I'm misspelling it!  It'll be Cincy from hereon out).

It's been a busy week in the wonderful world of the Chicago Bears this week.  Probably the busiest I can remember in recent years.  It even started before last week's game, with the surprise addition of Gaines Adams.  Let's have a little recap, shall we?

Sunday night:

Bears looked awful against the Falcons in a game they very easily could have won.  Red zone turnovers and dumb penalties were the story besides the continued struggles of the running game.

Monday:
Chad Ochocinco (or Ocho-stinko and/or Ocho-tweeto as I'll call him) started waging a war of words on Twitter, calling out Peanut Tillman specifically. ChicagoNow's own Sarah Spain has a really nice piece on this here, including making a new friend.

Tuesday:
Bears extended Jay Cutler's contract through 2013.  Two years and $30 million tacked onto his current deal. He even got a congratulations tweet from Ochocinco.  Is it called a congratweet?  Some people like the deal, others don't.

Wednesday:
Former Bear and now Bengal Cedric "The Complainer" Benson accused the Bears of blackballing him after they let him go before last season. If he had only run as hard for the Bears as he runs his mouth.

Thursday:
Bears GM Jerry Angelo appeared on Mully and Hanley's morning show on The Score.  Jerry took the high road when faced with Warren Sapp's criticism.  Interesting stuff (including audio).  He also proclaimed Tommie Harris healthy.

ocho cutler and olsen.jpg

As captioned in Chad's Twitpic: Esteban, Jay Cutler n Greg Olsen

Friday:
Tommie Harris is officially declared Doubtful for Sunday's game.  (He has since been ruled out).  So is Jerry clueless or a liar or a clueless liar?

Saturday:
Zach Zaidman gets stood up by Chad Ochocinco (who had promised to take ZZ to lunch).  Instead "Esteban" hooked up with Cutler and Olsen.

Whew!  Like I said, it was a busy week and we haven't even buckled up the chin straps yet.

I'll be back about an hour before kickoff to get things rolling.  I will be doing a scoring summary after the jump and the play by play will unfold in the Comments section.  To join the discussion, sign up here.  Sign up!  I get lonely and frankly could use the help!

To those who have asked, I have repeatedly asked for an Auto-refresh feature on the site, but apparently it's harder than it sounds to get that executed.  Feel free to stuff the ChicagoNow Complaint Department mailbox.  In the meantime, you'll have to hit the refresh button as the action unfolds.  Usually I post a new comment after each drive unless it's a long drive or something big drops.

SCORING SUMMARY

Bengals 7 Bears 0, 77 yards on 8 plays

Palmer hooks up with Chris Henry for a 7 yard TD pass.  A long run by Benson and a big 3rd down conversion by Chris Henry keyed the drive.

Bengals 14, Bears 0, 80 yards, 8 plays
This drive features a heavy dose of Cedric Benson as the Bears' D stubbornly refuses to load up the box.  Palmer hit Ocho-tweeto for a short TD pass to cap the drive.  Bengals O looks sharp and Bears D looks like that stretch in the 2nd quarter against Atlanta last week.  AWFUL!!!

Bengals 21 Bears 0, 63 yards on 7 plays

Palmer hits tight end Foschi for a 3-yard TD pass.  Bears button down on the run, so the Bengals take to the air.  A couple of big catches to Chad 8-5 fuel another Bengals scoring drive.  Didn't think it was possible for the Bears to look worse than they did last week.  Oh man, was I wrong!

Bengals 28, Bears 0, 66 yards on 12 plays
A very methodical drive with a good combination of strong running by Benson and Palmer absolutely pantsing the Bears defense.  He's playing us like a fiddle.  Capped off with a short TD to 'Verne Coles.

Bengals 31, Bears 0, 6 yards on 4 plays

Bengals cash in on the Cutler INT for a field goal.

Bears 3, Bengals 31, 70 yards in 9 plays

Cutler runs the 2-minute drill well, but the Bears still have to settle for a 22 yard Robbie Gould field goal.  Hester with a couple of big plays and a key 3rd down conversion by Earl Bennett keyed the peanut in this otherwise turd of a half.

Bengals 38 Bears 3, 61 yards on 9 plays
Bengals cash in on another turnover and continue to pick apart Lovie's Cover-2, which should be re-named Cover-0 because we haven't covered anyone today.  Ocho-samba caps off the drive as he hauls in Palmer's 5th TD pass.

Bengals 45, Bears 3, 53 yards in 7 plays
Cedric Benson caps off his revenge game with a 1-yard TD run.  It's not looking good for the Bears.

Bears 10, Bengals 45, 60 yards in 8 plays
Sorry, I can't believe I didn't update this when it happened.  I guess I was in shock.  Devin Hester with a 5-yard TD pass.

Bears absolutely embarrassed.  Nothing worked.  We couldn't even with the coin toss or a challenge.  Nowhere to go but up from here with the Browns coming to town for the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown game, as the Bears will be in the Orange on Walter Payton day.  Plenty more coverage on this here at Bears Game Day and Bear Goggles On throughout the week.  Thanks to all for jumping on.

Just about 2 o'clock and the inactives are in:
BEARS:
G Lance Louis
DE Jarron Gilbert
DT Tommie Harris

CB D.J. Moore
WR Juaquin Iglesias

BENGALS:
QB Jordan Palmer

A little surprising that Gilbert and Toeaina not dressing with Tommie Harris not suiting up.

I know. Looked like Steelers were going to pull away and then Harvin returned that kick.

Mike Burzawa said:

Damn. Now we've got to hope for OT for the Steelers. Vikes marching.

And just as I type that, Steelers pick off old man Favre and bring it back to the house to seal the deal. Eat it Vikes!

Of course we get the Cowboys game here in SoCal. The only way to see the Bears are night games... sigh.

Mike Burzawa said:

Caldwell stuffed at the 24 yard line on the return. Bengals go play-action and hit Ocho-tweeto for 19 yards out to the 42. Benson gets the rock and dives forward to pick up 6. Bears bring some heat on Palmer and Tillman breaks up the attempt to 85. 3rd and 3 with a shotgun snap. Chris Henry with a big catch across the middle for the 1st down. Benson busts out along the sideline. Looked like Wale was held at the point of attack!

christian h. said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

So the average gain of the Bengals is what, 15 yards? Not good. And CB just gets another 22. Horrible start.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Benson takes the direct snap in a Wildcat look from the Bengals and picks up 3. Back to a normal look from the 8 yard line. This time, Benson is stuffed trying to gain the edge. 3rd and 8. Come on D! Palmer has all day to throw and hit Chris Henry in the back of the end zone for the TD. 7-0 Bengals.

omz1721 said:

Anyone have a link for streaming video to the game?

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Bears set to receive. Knox brings it out to the 29. TV timeout.

Back to the Bengals scoring drive, it looks like Zack Bowman is in for a long day. It's been a couple of games now where he's getting pick on. Only way to stop it is to make some plays.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

JC and the Bears set to go. And a false start gets it going. Come on Williams! Get your head in the game. Forte right up the middle to pick up 4. Bears empty the backfield with motion left and a little toss to Olsen on the right for a short gain. 3rd and 6 coming up. Flag on the play. False start or offsides. Who induced whom? Bengals neutral zone infraction. 3rd and 1 coming. Bears loading up for a run in a tight formation. Forte goes off the right side for the first down.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Forte up the gut again to get 5 yards. Looks like the Bears will keep firing off the right side. Cutler checking off. Cutler hits Hester on a 6 yards out when they needed 5. Bears into Bengals territory. Forte stuffed on first down for no gain.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Tank Johnson just owned Frank Omiyale. Think he said, that's how we do it in Cell block 6. Forte screen pass is sniffed out for a loss. 3rd and 14 with Cutler in the gun. Cutler has all day, but can't find any of his primaries. Checks down to Olsen who is stopped short of the first. Maynard on to punt.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Nice attempt to pin them down, but the ball bounces into the end zone for a touchback.

christian h. said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Well it's still early. Someone must step up and make some plays.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

First drive for the Bears shows they're intent to keep trying to run the ball. Wasn't this Bengals secondary ranked 28th heading into this week. I'm just saying.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Bengals take over at the 20. Benson bounces outside for another big pickup. Please hit him! This time the Bengals try Benson off the left side. Shows some power to pick up 7. WTF? Palmer on the sprintout right and connects with 85. (I'm sick of typing Ochocinco!)

jimmyb82 said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

you forgot to mention the the bears screen pass was blown up because Olin Kreutz ran out to block...but forgot to block...again... This team is embarrassing.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Play action and Palmer hits 8-5 down the middle for another quick hitter. Bengals marching again. Bengals give Benson a breather and Scott picks up 11. Alex Brown shaken up on the play. They're saying a foot injury.

christian h. said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Absolutely awful defence. Are the Bears even awake? Can someone watching it on TV tell me if they are even trying?

ChicagoKirk said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

TV just showed how you attack the cover-2. Is not Lovie a cover-2 expert? LOL I can't believe I have to start watching hockey and give up on the Mice of the Midway so early in the season.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

The announcers keep pointing out 7 in the box. Is Lovie trying to prove something? 1st and 10 from the 21. Benson up the gut for another 9 yards. He is on a mission. Where was this while in Chicago? Fuck you Ced! Bengals hand it to Benson but he's got another first down. Um, could we get an adjustment? Palmer hits 8-5 in the end zone but there's a flag. It's on Tillman. TD Bengals. So far, no samba from Ocho-tweeto.

christian h. said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Okay, bye. I'm out of here...

martinom said:

user-pic

I totally agree.

Jimmy Greenfield said:

user-pic

Everyone calm down, the Bears are trying. They're just a vastly inferior team.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Don't worry Jimmy. We'll wait until the Bengals are up a few more TD's before we make an adjustment on defense. We got em right where we want em!

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Bears need a big return to spark them. Let's go Jackass! He's out close to the 30. Cutler brings them to the line and fakes the handoff. He's sacked by some long haired dude. Coverage sack. Cutler swings it out to Forte for a short gain. This should cap off another ugly first quarter. YIKES!!!

doylejl said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

What about this lousy excuse for defense! Lovie can't coach, we're screwed as long as he and Turner are around. PATHETIC, he has TWO weeks to prep a team and they are walking in their sleep, and that isn't as bad as they were prepared today!!!! HUH????

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

2nd quarter starts like the 1st one ended - with Cutler running for his life and he's sacked again. BLAH! Bengals will take over with great field position at about the 40. This has the potential to get ugly if the defense doesn't start playing soon. Let's go Lovie. Wake up!!!

zone22 said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

A slaughter. Do they have a mercy rule in the NFL?

martinom said:

user-pic

No. Just ask Tennessee last weekend. Tis will be another 59-0 ending.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Bengals take over. Benson gets blasted in the backfield. Anthony Adams leads the charge as the Bears finally bring the 8th man up into the box. Palmer hits Coles. Zack Bowman gets torched again. Poor play there by Zack. Benson gets tripped up by Alex Brown. Looks like he's alright. 2nd and 6 from the 31. Fake to Benson and rolls right. 8-5 with another catch and he hands the ball to a BenGal cheerleader. Roach light up Ocho cinco, but he hangs on to haul it in at the 3. Palmer's pass is deflected to bring up 2nd down. Look for a run here. Another play action and Palmer hits a wide open tight end for a touchdown. This is a disaster!

NYMike78 said:

Time to take some gambles with Cutler. At this point, what the hell do we have to lose? Air it out!

Ashley Bond said:

What is going on Bears?!

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Wow - not prepared to play. That was the word on the street this past week in Cinci - The Bears would be as clueless as their head coach. Nice hand-off up the middle to a 4 foot 9 inch guy - down 21 points.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Get you guys a head coach who actually inspires your lifeless team.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Cutler isn't finding any open receivers. He keeps trying to check it down. No one open so another incompletion. Cutler is hit as he throws and it comes up way short. 3rd and 10. Cutler checks off. Cutler stands in and hits Bennett to convert the first down. Finally a little protection. Bears go no-huddle. Where have I seen this before. So they hand it to Wolfe running up the middle? WTF? More no huddle as JC calls the play. Bengals rush across offsides. That's the most effective play of the day for the offense! 2nd and 3 coming up. Cutler hits Hester on a slant but he coughs it up. FUMBLE! Nothing is going our way today. Bengals get it back at the 34.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Number #68 has been blocking a lot of air - not sure he's even touched a defender yet. Oh - FUMBLE - BEARS NOT PREPARED TO PLAY yet again. Hope you enjoy your day - it will be at least 35-0 in the 1st half.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

3-3 is not that bad, but you have a lot of tough teams coming up on your schedule. What a waste to have Jay Cutler and not even make the play-offs. Another 3rd down conversion - do you have a defensive coordinator? Just wondering.

martinom said:

user-pic

You can have that pansy named Cutler. Never did like him, never will.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Benson with 11 carries for 75 yards so far. He picked up one on the last carry and then gets it again for a few more yards running right. 3rd down coming. Palmer dumps it off to the fullback and they pick up the first. Palmer is gashing the defense. Another rush by Benson but Briggs is there.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Pitch and catch. We do it in the back yard quite often.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Oh - you'll be airing it out. The Bengals are the leagues 28th ranked pass defense and what do you guys have? Nothing. You can't run, so air it out.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

ANOTHER 3rd down and long conversion - again, I ask, do you have a defensive coordinator? This is an emBEARassment.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Soon to be 28-0

Dan in San Fran said:

user-pic

gobengals, how many years did you save up your trash talk. Must have been aggravating suffering all those years with your joke of a team with your superstar ocho loco

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Once again you have less than 20 yards of field to defend - let's see if we get wide open behind your vaulted Bears defense.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

7 minutes left in the half. Palmer hit 8-5 for another first down. 7 catches already for the big Tweeter. Damn! Benson tripped up in the backfield. 2nd and 10 from the Bears 40. Briggs knifes into the backfield to stuff Benson for no gain. Nice play. Is Briggs the only guy out there playing defense?? Palmer lobs it over the middle to hit 8-5. He's over 100 yards for the day already. Can we change defensive coordinators mid-game? Benson with another strong run to bring it down to the 11 yard line. I feel sick. Benson tripped up as the clock winds down to about 3 and half minutes. Palmer checking off again. Benson met at the point of attack for no gain. Adams and Roach first on the spot. Adams with a nice game so far. Bengals call a time out to catch their breath. They're not used to running this much.

martinom said:

user-pic

Season is over folks. Face it, poor management continues to make poor decisions. My days of getting NFL Ticket are over. Damn usre gald I didn't go to this fiasco. All of my great Bears stuff will be put in hibermation early AGAIN thanks to the idiots running this team.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Oh - another 3rd down coming up - should be an easy conversion - or probably touchdown. I think you've had the ball all of 4 minutes in the game. You should work on getting your running game going with your big off season free agent pick-up at left guard.

NYMike78 said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Why are so many of the bears smiling. ? Does the scoreboard not work there?

doylejl said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

But Lovie doesn't KNOW they are the 28th ranked pass defense! That is the problem, he stands there emotionless, dumbfounded and WATCHES without doing a god damned thing. Both lines stink. Oh boy, another score!!!!!

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Bengals at the 8 and Palmer hits Coles for another TD. A little bubble screen and with a few blocker in front he's in to score. UGH!!!

twocee said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Now this is fun to watch.

Can someone tell me how exactly having Lovie Smith call the defensive plays has improved things? Let's see...you're consistently getting crushed, and yet you still keep calling the same formation over and over again? Way to make adjustments there.

AND, the Bengals score again. This is almost as good as watching them beat Pittsburgh a few weeks ago.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

HA HA - another 3rd down converted into a TD - I will say however, we didn't get behind your vaulted BEARS defense - we got in front of you. Again I ask, do you have a defensive coordinator?

DicktheBrusier said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Bears finally getting exposed for the pathetic team they are. Don;t blame Cutler for this one.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Hey Dan in San Fran - not sure what you are smoking out their in the land of liberals, but quite frankly, your team is a pathetic joke with a coaching staff who looks clueless and uninspired. Does you head coach moonlight with another job, or does he make enough money to give it a shot full time (for what good it does).

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Oh - soon to be 35-0. What a pathitic effort by the mighty Lovie Smith's.

DicktheBrusier said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Oops. Another Cutler INT. I guess he does want to share some of the blame for this upcoming loss. Is that Kyle Orton I hear LOUDLY laughing at home as he snacks on pizza and watches the game?

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Yeah - give us Cutler like you gave us Benson - Cutler would make a good backup to Palmer. Maybe if your team had a coaching staff that actually developed players, you would be such a pathetic joke today.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Johnny Knox tries a little stutter step on the return but it backfires. Of course. Why would anything work today?

Cutler hits Knox to get it a first down. Cutler's next pass to Bennett is tipped up and picked off. The Bengals take over at the 17. Benson take the handoff to pick up a couple as the 2 minute warning arrives.

Speaking Sputnik said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Gobengals,

It must be nice to have a halfway decent team for once; enjoy it. Those of us who've known better could have told you how this game was going to go down. The VAUNTED (vaulted is not the word you're looking for, ace) Bears Defense has been a joke for the past two seasons, as any Bear fan will tell you. That said, I like the Bengals to go to the playoffs from the AFC North. Good team, well-coached. More than I can say of the Bears, for sure.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Oh - Lovie is calling your plays on defense? That explains most of it. What a clueless head coach. I feel sorry for any real Bear fans.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Palmer hits Caldwell and Afalava forces him out. 3rd and 1. Palmer checks off again. Benson is creamed in the backfield. Bengals will settle for a field goal. It's not a good day when the only times the punter takes the field in the half is to hold for the field goals and PAT's.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

1:10 left for the Bears to find another way for Cinci to score before halftime.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Hey sputnik - I just don't understand how a professional head coach can sit there on the side line so confused and befuddled? Is befuddled a word? Your defense is "vaulted" because it's a "safe" bet that we will score - particularly on 3rd down. Good luck to you the rest of the year - but I will say - it won't get any easier for your coaching staff.

Dan in San Fran said:

user-pic

gobengals, I wouldn't be so quick to dog Lovie. Your sad excuse of a coach had one winning season in 6 seasons and should have been fired but your team was afraid that it will not be able to attract anyone better to such a lousy organization. Enjoy this game because you will be crawling back into your hole before too long

Speaking Sputnik said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Bengals,

Yeah, it's an absolute joke. Palmer gets a bad rep around the league, but he's putting on a clinic here, as he should be. Well-punned on the vaulted, but you aren't really going over the top. I look forward to watching Ochocinco's playoff celebrations, and thanks for the well-wishes. We need 'em.

Speaking Sputnik said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

And befuddled is the best word to describe it, yeah.

twocee said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

The Bengals are a good team (I know, I have to do a double take as I type that), but really, this is a great example of everything that is wrong, and has been wrong, with the Bears. Jay Cutler was never going to fix the real problems with this team.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Cutler chucks one up to Hester but it's underthrown. Hester didn't really have a chance. 3rd and 7. Cutler evades the rush and hooks up with Hester. 35 seconds left and the Bears call another time out. Cutler hits Hester for another first down. Bears actually moving the ball. They're into Bengals territory. Flag thrown - Hester with a false start. Cutler at the 41 with 17 seconds left. JC hits Bennett to pick up 26 yards as it's down to the 16 yard line. Bears take their final timeout.

Bears trying to end an awful half on a positive note. Cutler throws it away. 7 seconds to go. Last chance for a TD. Cutler takes the shotgun snap. He hits Hester on an out. He gets out of bounds and Robbie Gould comes on to kick a short 22 yards field goal. Hey - we scored! Yippey!

Gobengals said:

I'll defend Love Handles here, for once: he had to get the Bears on the board. He's thrown to Olsen twice thus far this season on 4th and Goal from the one or so, both for TD's. I wouldn't have been surprised last season, though.

Maybe the Bears should get a jump on traffic and take that bus they get off running and point it back to Chicago. That is just about the ugliest half of football I've been associated with. How about a courtesy flush Lovie 'cause that staanks!

Ghost of Halas said:

What was that old Lovie quote about running and the bus? "We run back to the bus in shame."?

I can hear the excuses now...

1. The Bears defense is injured (this has been the excuse for 3 years now)
2. The wide receivers are still learning the offense and getting used to Jay Cutler. These people are getting paid a lot of money to be such slow learners.
3. Jay Cutler is still learning the offense. Again, see above.

And finally, I'm sure that really this is all Cedric Benson's fault for being so MEAN.

Worse than the bar syndrome oh blogmeister being in city of a team that is 0-7 trying to defend this mess they put on the field today.

Just got in and opened up the ChiTown paper to see the Bears getting beat 31-3? What the hell is going on. Do they look as bad as the score or have there been too many turnovers. I can't believe the score against Ciny, WOW.

unbearleavable said:

And please put one of my alumni in at running back Forte is not getting the job done good guy but something missing this year.

Mike Burzawa said:

I feel better after throwing up. Back to action. Bears get the ball to start the half. Cutler takes over at the 27. Tosses it to Bennett who is blown up immediately. On 3rd and 9, Cutler hits Olsen. WOW! Generous spot. Didn't think he was going to get it. Refs looking to keep it interesting. Challenge coming from the Bengals. Why not?

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Your head coach had the nerve to tell the national broadcast crew that they took back the momentum back just before the half???

VeniceCardFan said:

Lovie will fire them up at halftime and have them ready to go in the 2nd half. Oh, forgot it's 31-3.. DUH...

Dan in San Fran said:

Mike Burzawa said:

Of course the Bengals win the challenge. Bears set to punt. Why does our offense look so pathetic? Bears apparently will go for it. Might as well. If you're going to try to pretend to come back, you've got to give it a shot. Cutler dives over the pile and picks up the first. Say what you want about Cutler, but down 28 he's still giving it his all.

Gobengals said:

Has #68 even made a block today? Cutler is under extreme pressure.

TOM COTNER said:

IS IT JUST ME, or are there others who wonder how much longer BEAR fans have to put up with these LOVIE SMITH politics ??? This goofball has zero business coaching a team in the NFL, and why JERRY ANGELO found it neccessary to resign him after the most recent SUPERBOWL year is completely bazaar !!! If you're gonna lure a QB like JAY CUTLER, you had better have a coach who is condusive to CUTLER'S style; AND IT'S ABUNDANTLY CLEAR THAT LOVIE SMITH NEEDS TO BE MINISTERING SOME CHURCH IN MISSISSIPPI, RATHER THAN COACHING A TEAM IN THE NFL !!! As I said a couple of years ago, the BEARS olught to invesat whatever it would take to get the ex STEELER coach out of the CBS studio and back on the sidelines !!! END OF STORY !!!

Mike Burzawa said:

Cutler gets hit as he throws. Big surprise, Omiyale owned at the line. Cutler zips one out to Hester on an out for a nice gain. No huddle. Bears move into Bengals territory. Cutler facing a big rush and a holding flag on Pace. If the Bears can't protect better, it might be time to bring in Hanie before Cutler gets himself hurt. Bengal shaken up.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Cutler may be giving it his all, but the O-line looks totally over-matched. Looks like your 2nd string line. Injuries? What's up with that?

Speaking Sputnik said:

Wow - this is hard to watch - even for a Bengals fan. I'd hate to see Cutler go down in such a train wreck of a game.

unbearleavable said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Hey Dan love all the hate in the room and any GB reference get a hold of yourself that team doesn't impress me this year at all. The injuries the same thing I have been saying for oh how many years Orton looks good in Denver its the coaching staff especially Turner he has got ADD I swear running game working lets pass and vice versa he has no clue.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Cutler nailed again - #68 fell down on the ground. What's up with that?

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

1st and 20 and Cutler can't handle the snap. He falls on it. Cutler tosses it out to Hester for a short gain. Another 3rd and forever. Cutler steps up and fires it to Knox. Looks like he got horse-collared there, but no call. No huddle on 4th and 5. Cutler tosses it up deep and it's picked off. No one bother to touch the interceptor (no not Vasher, so he gets up and returns it about 20 yards. UGLY!!!

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Cutler again with people in his face - wow another INT. #68 missed his assignment as our interior lineman storm in. This may be a Brett Favre type of game where he just keeps gun-slinging it and throws 5 or 6 picks.

unbearleavable said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Now Cutler gives his best Favre impression and it is not working and we don't have a vowel or another bye week to fix this.

Dan in San Fran said:

I hear you unbearleable. Another problem with the coaching staff is sticking with a plan or player way longer than they should even if it is not working, i.e., Omiyale

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Now all we need to do is keep feeding it to that #4 overall pick a few years back and run the clock out, go home and celebrate. Take a week off and get ready for the Ravens !!

unbearleavable said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

I am disappointed in the defense they are not getting the job done last week it was not their fault this week its bad all around both sides of the ball.

Gobengals said:

Looks like a fumble by Benson, but will your head coach challenge?

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Palmer takes over and the Bengals are not content to run. They hit the fullback and he picks up 9. Benson gets the carry and gets the first down. Bengals into Bears territory. Quick hitch to 8-5 to pick up just 2 yards. Palmer is 17-19. Benson goes off right tackle and dives forward after contact to pick up another first down. Benson goes over 100 for the day. Looks like a Benson fumble. There's a skirmish at the bottom of the pile. Hope someone punched Ced in the nuts. Don't bother with the challenge. But as I type that, Lovie will burn a time out, I mean challenge. We never win these. Bengals should start mapping out their next few plays.

Gobengals said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

I was only kidding - he must feel like rolling the dice on that challenge. Very Doubtful he'll win that one.

Bears lose the challenge and Palmer fires one off to Caldwell, but the Bengals are flagged for holding. Back em up, back em up! 2nd and 16 coming up. How do you beat a strong rush? Screen pass. And that's exactly what the Bengals do. Kevin Payne with a lovely 15 yard personal foul. Well done, KP! Bengals at the 14 with 5 and a half to go . Benson tries to get the corner but can't quite get there. He picks up 1. 2nd and 9. Palmer tries for Henry in the end zone but Zack Bowman actually makes a play to defend the pass. 3rd and 9. Bengals take over at the 47. Benson gashes through into Bears territory for 5 yards. Glad I sat the Bears D on my fantasy team today. Palmer with a rare incompletion. 3rd and 5. Bears blitz is picked up and Palmer hits a perfect pass to convert the first down. 1:45 left. Benson takes the rock for another couple of yards. 2nd and 8. Palmer tries to hit 8-5 but Tillman is flagged for holding. That's a ticky-tack call. Automatic first down. Benson keeps testing the corner and getting 2 yards. I wish Urlacher was playing. Benson busts through but Manning trips him up just short of the goal line. That ends another ugly quarter. Can we just quit now?

zentheredonethat said:

Ugh.........................I'll tell ya, I was looking for 10 wins this year and that is not gonna happen. I mean, how can they look good sometimes and terrible at the same time? O line sucks. Mike Burzawa said:

Mike Burzawa said:

Forte gets some garbage yards as he gets 10. Cutler with another Bengal in his face and just tosses it short. Cutler with a Grossman-esque 46.0 passer rating. It's going to be a rough Monday in Chicago. 3rd and 2. Cutler checks out. Hits Knox on the slant. Might as well pad the stats against the Bengals prevent D. Cutler hits Forte on the short pass that he turns into a nice gain. Bears actually threaten to score. 1st and 10 from the 13. Cutler tries to hit Knox near the goal line, but it's incomplete.

Gafferland said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Just created an account to say a few things.

First off, Gobengals, if you're still lurking and haven't laughed yourself into a stroke, I really like your team this year (except Benson). Obviously, they're better than the Bears, but here's the other thing:

Any fan base — the Bears are not out of the ordinary in this respect — has fans who always expect great things, and fans who are realistic. Remember, it was the media that was all "ZOMG teh Barez R su gooood. Culter iz teh awsome!! Brz!!! Denver = idiotzz!"

Lots of fans bought into that, and the excitement was real in the city. However, there are a lot of realistic Bears fans who know Lovie is useless, know our secondary is bush league, and had some concerns about our recievers. I predicted us to go 8-8, and miss the playoffs due to two losses each to GB and Minn.

But even for us realistic fans, the fact that we seem to have the most inept OLine in the league, and thus no running game, was a surprise. Also, two of our three starting linebacker going out in the first game, that was unforeseen as well.

Just don't lump us all together, is what I'm saying. And good luck to your team (except Benson).

Now, as for this 9/11-esque disaster here, I sort of like it. 1) The Bears are finally giving my blood pressure a rest by not playing a game that goes down to the wire. 2) It's so ugly that we're probably going to lead all the NFL Postgame shows and all the pundits are goig to go apesh*t on Lovie. 3) Lovie Smith can't hide any longer. The players have quit on him, finally, and for me that's awesome, because it only accelerates the inevitable Singletary coming to coach the Bears, which might also be a disaster but will be entertaining.

Also, OPRF for life.

Dan in San Fran said:

user-pic

Hey fellow OPRFer, as much as I would love to see Singletary come to the Bears, there is no way the Niners will let him go, especially now with Crabtree having a solid first game and Alex Smith looking good throwing to him today

Mike Burzawa said:

unbearleavable said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Yeah Zeu sorry but this shit fucking sucks this is a bad dream I really wish I could hit someone. And the skewer thing isn't nice enough for what I would like to do.

Dan in San Fran said:

user-pic

I hear you about Orton, unbearleavable. He was actually a good fit for the short passing and running game that Bears still run. However, I am still hoping the Bears will open their passing game up more with Cutler once the O-line can give time for 5 step drops. If the O-line can not improve, then the whole Cutler trade would have been a terrible waste. Also, I am tired of hearing of what a genius Marinelli is as I don't see the Bears D-line dominating any games this season.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Benson still in and pouring it on. 14 more yards. Benson gets a career high rushing. Of course he did. Cedric Benson. He's probably gassing up his boat right after the game.

Mike Burzawa said:

user-pic

Hey look, Gaines Adams. Damn, that dude is skinny. First punt of the game for the Bengals. 8:20 left to go. Flag on the play. Bears run into the kicker and the Bengals keep the ball. Lovie needs to pull a Singletary and drop his pants or something. Benson made another appearance to rub some salt in the wound. 3rd and short coming up. O'Sullivan with a bootleg to pick up the first down. Benson leads the league in rushing and he's going back in. He must want to hit 200. Bears need to snap his leg in two. Wipe that smug grin off his face.

GAff don't hate the player hate those on the BEARS INTELLIGENCE staff slash player development oxymoron that caused this. Oh yea Zeu I am with you work tomorrow hate to be my clients.

Make it 4 remotes!!! I'm screwed now!!!!

To the blogger who said the Bears "gave up on Benson too soon". He gave up on himself. He took the $15,000,000 bonus. Got FAT. And never even tried with the Bears. Then he got himself in trouble with the law several times. The Bears were right to cut him when they did.

Bengals fans should take caution. He'll do well this year and next. Then when he's a free agent. Some sucker team will give him a FAT contract again, and he won't try again.

I know the Bears got killed on defense today, but they were without Urlahcer, Tiasamona(no clue how to spell it, sorry) and Harris.

But still, Lovie Smith and Ron Turner have to be the 2 most unimaginative coaches in the league. They are both either stubborn or stupid!! Ron Turner, in particular has no clue how to take advantage of Cutlers abilities. Were there even 2 or 3 pass plays designed to go more than 10 yards down the field? And Cutler has perhaps the strongest and best deep ball in the league.

None of Cutler's stats were his fault. The O-Line is pathetic. Why not a few designed roll-outs? So Cutler can get away from the pressure? He is also one of the best throwing on the run. But Turner has him simply dropping back 98% of the time. What a joke!!!

But I will also say the Bears receiving corps suck!! Ochocinco, Henry and Coles could all start ahead of any Bears receivers. Management deserves blame too for not giving Cutler any weapons.
