FINAL SCORE: BEARS 17 STEELERS 14

2:00 PM Bears Mike:
Welcome to Bears Game Day, the only place on the Web to get anything and everything Bears.  My name is Mike Burzawa and I'm the lead blogger at Bear Goggles On, the Chicago Bears blog on the FanSided Sports Network.

I'll be live blogging throughout the game to provide instant reaction as the action unfolds.  We even found a rabid Steelers living among us here in Chicago to post the enemy's point of view throughout the game too. More from him in a minute.

Most importantly, we need you to comment, send your pics and tweets and get involved to help create the ultimate Game Day experience.  Spread the word and stay tuned.  The fun is just beginning.

2:05 PM Steeler Scott:
C'mon sing it with me. Steelers fans: Here we go ... Steelers ... here we go ... Pittsburgh's going to the Super Bowl ...

But first we have to beat the Bears today. Oh, and beat we will.

For those that don't know me, I'm Scott Kleinberg. I live in Chicago and am a giant Pirates and Steelers fan. Yep. Proud to be one of those. When I nick myself shaving, I bleed black and gold.

I saw no less than 30 fans dressed in black and gold on my 20-minute walk into the office today, and about 30 fist bumps later I am PUMPED.

Dressed in my Santonio Holmes jersey and waving my Terrible Towel, I'm working on my Myron Cope voice and getting ready to bring you all the action from today's game with a powerful Pittsburgh slant.

One last thing, Bears fans. There's plenty for you to do today down in the Soldier Field area besides watch your Bears go 0-2. My top two recommendations are the Shedd followed by an evening visit to the Planetarium. Then you can recline back, look up at the stars and ponder what in the world the Bears were thinking today.

2:07 PM Bears Mike:
Alrighty then Scott. Ease up on the booze, it's still over an hour 'til kickoff.  Stay tuned for more updates...

2:10 PM Bears Mike:

How 'bout them Bengals?  They're tied up at 21 apiece with the hated Packers about halfway through the 3rd quarter.  Are they actually not that bad or are the Packers suffering a little letdown after their lucky win over the Beloved?

WTF is going on with Cedric Benson?  He's got over 100 yards in the 3rd quarter and actually looks like a real NFL running back.  Thanks for collecting all those millions from the Bears and then deciding to mature somewhere else.  YEESH!

2:15 PM Bears Mike:

Bears Inactives for today: Iglesias, Aromashodu, Moore, Smith, Tinoisamoa, Clark, Louis, Gilbert

Steelers Inactives LB Harrison,QB Dixon (3rd QB),S Polamalu,T Hills,DE Eason,G Urbik,CB Lewis,WR Sweed

2:20 PM Bears Mike:
Chad Ochocinco lives up to his word with a Lambeau Leap as the Bengals take the lead in Green Bay!

2:25 PM Steeler Scott:
Steelers are ranked 10th in offense while the Bears are ranked 11th.

More even than I anticipated, but I'm not worried. I think it's going to be easy for the Steelers to confuse Cutler. I think anyone can confuse Cutler.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons will suit up for the game. He missed the opener, suffering from a high ankle sprain. I'm hoping he plays.

2:30 PM Bears Mike:
Reports from Soldier Field are not too complimentary of the new sod job.  Heard Ted Phillips  was out on the field yelling "Get off my lawn!"

Johnny Knox, whom I affectionately call Jackass after Johnny Knoxville from the MTV show bearing the same name, will apparently take over the Kick Return duties.  Hmm...

2:50 PM Steeler Scott:

I was at Soldier Field for the first time last week for the U2 concert. Kept wondering if Bono is a Steelers fan, you know, with Dan Rooney being named ambassador to Ireland and all. Either way, lots of Steelers fans making their way down Michigan Avenue right now.

Oh, look at that - turns out that Timmons will indeed start at inside linebacker today. That's big. Speaking of big, Keyaron Fox took his place last week and ended up having 9 tackles. Oh what a defense we have.

2:55 PM Bears Mike:
I just got a text from my brother-in-law, who is at the game:

Way too many Steeler fans here.  Disgusting.

And they all have their f**king towels.

Alrighty then.  I know the Steeler fans are well traveled.  When I did a Q&A with a Steelers blogger earlier this week, he expected 1/3 Steeler fans.  Who knows, maybe Cutler will get some cheers after all?

3:05 PM Steelers Scott:
Sitting here watching the Bengals beating the Packers and thinking ... yeah ... this is going to be an interesting game. I'm well aware of the fact that the Steelers running game isn't exactly stellar thus far, and I think it might be a close game early on, but after that ... look out!

3:07 PM Bears Mike:

I'm torn watching that game.  I have the Pack beating the Bungles in my Survival Pool.  Could be another early exit from another pool.

3:12 PM Steeler Scott:
f**king towels, huh? I'm waving mine. Wish your brother-in-law could see it.

I was trying to think of what the Bears fans could wave in lieu of Terrible Towels, but nothing's coming to me. Oh wait - how about the white flag? We give up! We give up!

Bears Mike:
Johnny Knox brings the opening kickoff out past the 25.  Hester with a lot of running to pick up 2 yards.  He must get paid by the mile. And the Bears pick up where they left off with another 3 and out.

Steelers with a personal foul on the punt return that backs them up to the 8 yard line.

Steelers Scott: Steelers start at their own 8 - Parker starts things off right. Gain of 6. And there's Ward for the first down. That throw by Ben had my biting my fingernails.

Bears Mike:
D takes the field without Urlacher and Willie Parker goes right up the middle.  Yeesh!

After Hines Ward converts a first down Big Ben comes out with a big pump fake but nothing doing.

Holmes wide open as two Steelers are right there.  Where is the new secondary?

10:46 left 1st quarter. Steeler Scott:
Roethlisberger gain of 24 - complete to Holmes. That's his jersey I'm wearing. W00t!!

Steelers Scott: 1st 9:20:
I thought Holmes was going to find an opening and go all the way. Wow. Steelers starting strong!

Bears Mike 7:10 left in 1st:
Come on Defense!  Hold em!  We're getting carved up by this Steelers passing attack.  Time out, probably because they're tired of running around.  Need a breather.

Steelers Scott: 1st 7:50
90 yards already! Inside the 10. Opening drive touchdown? My sources tell me yes.

Bears Mike:
I am already not liking my blogging partner today.

Nice tackle by Afalava!  HOLD!!!  Moore's forward progress is stopped!!!  4th down.  And the Defense can't stop Big Ben's rollout.  1 yard pass to the tight end.

5:00 left 1st quarter. Steelers Scott
Can't agree more, Jim Nantz ... what an opening drive for the Steelers. Wow. Kick is good - Reed always comes through. 8 minutes, 92 yards and it's 7-0. Your move, Bears. Your move.

Bears Mike:
Bears start off at their 30 after the Steelers TD.

Cutler hooks up with Olsen.  That equals their total from last week.  Now a handoff to Forte that goes nowhere and it's another 3rd down for the Bears.  This needs to get picked up.  D needs a rest.  Olsen can't hang on and it's Brad Maynard time again.  Ick!

Steelers Scott
Again - 3 downs and punt. A 42-yarder. I feel another score coming!

Bears Mike: 3:20 left in the 1st
Steelers start off at their 10 yard line.  Didn't seem to hurt them on the last drive.  Parker is stuffed in 1st down, but busts loose for a first down on 2nd down.

Lousy tackling on Miller by D Manning sets up a 2nd and short.

Willie Parker with the cutback and rattles off another 11 yard run.  This is getting ugly in a hurry.  Settle down defense!

Alex Brown with some great penetration to stuff the run in the backfield and the first quarter mercifully comes to a close.

Steeler Scott:
Tough so far for the Bears. Not a single first down.

Bears Mike: Start of 2nd:
Mewelde Moore picks up the 5 yards that Parker lost at the end of the 1st.  Big 3rd down for the Bears D.  And as I type that, Hines Ward is WIDE OPEN!  Not a Bears defender in the picture.  Um Lovie.  Are you calling the defense?

Tillman with what appears to be an INT, but there are flags on the play.  Let's hope!  Bears ball!!!  Finally, something goes our way.  Peanut with the pick and the Bears hold off the Steelers.  Let's go Cutler!

Steelers Scott:
WTH, Roethlisberger? Damn. But 2 flags ... 1st down Chicago. Sigh. That's ok. It's early.

Bears Mike 13:24 left in the 2nd:
Bears start at their own  9.  Kellen Davis notches the first 1st down for the Bears offense.

Cutler hits Davis in the worst possible place - right in the hands.  Another drop for the Bears.

Earl Bennett hauls in the out pass from Cutler to set up a 3rd and 3.  Need this one.
Hey look, there's Johnny Knox for 13 yards.  Nice catch in traffic.  Jackass!!!

Steelers Scott
Interesting how quickly Jay Cutler is trying to get rid of the ball. I mean, I understand that on one hand, but one thing about Roethlisberger is how accurate he can be in his throws because he takes the time to throw.

Bears Mike 11:14 left in the 2nd.  After a holding penalty by McKie, Forte appears to bobble one, but the Bears get away with it.  Cutler finds Kellen Davis again for 6 to set up another 3rd and long.

Great protection for Cutler, but he overthrows Knox big time and it's Maynard time.  A 44-yarders sets up the Steelers at about the 24.

Steelers Scott
Wish there was a mic on Cutler during that replay. Would have sworn he yelled "Oh gosh, darn it! Fiddlesticks!

Nice grab, Wallace! 3 yards is 3 yards.

Bears Mike with 8:21 left in the 2nd:

Bears with a time out as the Steelers set up on a 3rd and 3.

Steelers Scott
Feels like a strange time for a time-out, but ok - I need a rest anyway. Whew! My arm is tired from waving my Terrible Towel!

Bears Mike:

Scott, you sure your arm is tired from waving the towel?

Another wide open Steelers receiver.  ARGHHH!

Steeler Scott:

Gain of 10. First down as the rain starts to fall - let's see what a sloppy field and the new sod in the rain end up yielding.

These CSI commercials are awkward!!

Bears Mike:
Is lousy sod part of the whole Bears weather myth?

Steelers Scott
Look at that rain come down. And look at that sod come up.

Bears Mike:
When it finally looks like we've stopped em, we jump offsides.  3rd and 10 coming up.
Big Ben with a big overthrow.  Take that Jay Cutler.  Anything you can do, I can do better.

Hester back and let's it go inside the 10 on that 59 yard punt.  Bears will start at their own 2.  No problem, we've got 'em right where we want em.

Steelers Scott

Wow. That throw was high - very Cutler-esque.

59 yards and look at where the Bears will get the ball - at their 2. Nice!!

Bears Mike:
Thank you James Harrison. No better way to help us get out of the hole than a roughing the passer penalty. That's another 1st down for the Bears.  I lost count, is that 2 or 3?

Looks like these receivers never caught a wet ball.  Um, Ron Turner, how about a run or two?

And Turner gets the memo and brings our Adrian Peterson on a big run for another first down!

Knox with another grab.  This rookie is making an impact.  Good patience on Cutler's part to hang in the pocket.  Nice play.

Olsen streaking down the sidelines and gets rocked by Tyrone Carter.  WOW!.  That dazed both of them and they'll take a time out let everyone gather themselves.

Steelers Scott:

OH MAN! What a hit! Wow. That was one helluva collision. Everyone's shaken up on that. I felt it here.

4:04 left 2nd quarter.
Bears Mike:
Both Olsen and Carter are on the sidelines as action resumes.  Cutler sets up a Forte screen that goes for 7 and a 3rd down coming up.  JC fires a rifle at Knox.  Defensive holding sets up the Bears with another 1st down.  Thank you!

Steelers Scott:
Gotta say, Cutler's getting more accurate as the game goes on. Kind of like last week.

3:28 left 2nd quarter. Steelers Scott:
Just saw a Steelers fan scratching his beard in confusion in the stands. Yep. I know what you are feeling, sir. I know.

Bears Mike:
Cutler has a new favorite target in Knox.  Olsen slips in the end zone on what was a sure TD pass from Cutler goes sailing over his head.  Damn rain and turf!  Hey, at least Olsen is back in the game.

2:05 left 2nd quarter. Steelers Scott
Wow. Olsen! On a dry day with perfect sod, that was a touchdown. Slipped.

2 minute warning
Bears Mike:
Wow, this first half is flying by!  Time flies when you're losing.  Cutler hits Peterson who gives a great second effort to get the first down.  1st and goal Bears.

They hand off to AP and he picks up 1 yard up to the 5.  2nd down.

Steelers Scott

Folks in my office all rooting for the Bears. I feel like the only Steelers fan here.

Bears Mike:

Cutler tries to scramble for the TD, but it developed slowly and the Steelers stuff him.  Bears take a time out to let me get caught up.  Thanks!

0:36 left 2nd quarter.
Steelers Scott

Now we see the true Steelers defense work it when it counts. 2nd and goal. Nothing doing. 1 yard loss. Nice sack!

0:19 left 2nd quarter
Bears Mike:

Correction, Steelers took the time out.  Kellen Davis with the TD!!!  Nice!  Cutler likes those big targets around the end zone!  And after a miserable offensive first quarter, it looks like the Bears can salvage a tie going to the half.

Steelers Scott:
Touchdown, Bears. Davis. Nice catch. Nice throw, Cutler.

97 yard drive for the Bears on that one. Nice. It's closer than I thought it would be as we approach halftime.

Bears Mike:
Steelers bring the short kick out to the 34 yard line.  Curious to see if they try anything.  Nope.  They'll take a knee and we'll head to halftime.

Steelers Scott:
Longest drive allowed by the Steelers in 3 years. 97 yards. Wow. That's a disturbing stat - or is it? I mean - not allowing that long of a drive over 3 years is pretty amazing.

Bears Mike:
And that's why we let Scott hang around today.  For fun facts like that.  Let's catch our breath and head out for a strong 2nd half.

2nd half about to get underway and there's another Vince Vaughn siting.  He's been making the rounds in town lately.  Bears set to kick it away.

Nice boot by Robbie Gould for a touchback and the Steelers will take over at the 20.

Steelers Scott
Steelers will get it at the 20 - right after we listen to the announcers talk about how amazing it is that the Bears kept the game close.

Bears Mike:
Willie Parker is going nowhere on 1st down.  Crowd is into it and making some noise and Roethlisberger misses Holmes on a slant.  3rd and long for the Steelers.

Astute point by Nantz - backup tight ends accounting for both scores.

Hey look  - Hunter Hillenmeyer doing his best Urlacher impression to knock it down.

Hester bring the 55 yard punt back 10 to the 35.

14:21 left 3rd quarter
Steelers Scott:

Damn it, Roethlisberger? Where were you throwing that?

Hester gets it back to the 35. Not bad. DEFENSE! DEFENSE! Here we go Steelers, here we go! No one chanting besides me in the office.

I am so downloading Madden 10 for the iPhone after this game is over.

Bears Mike:

Cutler with a big underthrow off the back foot and could have been a pick.

Forte takes the carry for a yard and the Steelers bring the heat on 3rd down.  WOW.  Maybe we made them mad?  Intentional grounding is called and it's time to punt again.

Great coverage by the Bears punt cover team.

Steelers Scott:
Piece of advice, Cutler - if you are going down, just go down - throwing the ball in the air like that is a Kordell Stewart mistake from Steelers days past.

Bears punt. Steelers got nothing after that 42-yarder. Penalty on Steelers. Geez. Well, can't say the game isn't exciting.

12:59 left in the 3rd
Bears Mike:

Fast Willie Parker not looking so fast on 1st down as he picks up 2.  Big Ben can't connect with Hines Ward and the Steelers in another 3rd and long.  Let's go D!  They give Moore a generous spot on the dump off pass from Ben.  He had all day for.  And the measurement confirms it.

Steelers Scott:
FINALLY! Roethlisberger hits his man and that's a first down. He's been woefully inaccurate in recent plays - very un Ben-like.

Bears Mike:
Holmes can't bring in that deep out from Big Ben.  He looked great on that opening drive but not much since.

Ben finds the tight end in another dump off to pick up 8.  Here comes a short 3rd and 2.  Nice pass rush from Alex Brown and Anthony Adams!  Big sack and the Steelers will punt!

Steelers Scott
Roethlisberger - you gotta throw that. Seriously, dude!

Bears Mike:
Hester can't break free and the Bears will take over at about the 22.    I can't criticize Ben on that sack.  The pressure developed late and he was used to sitting back there all day.

10:25 left in the 3rd

Bears Mike:
Kellen Davis with another catch for 7 yards.   But the false start gives much of that back.  Forte can't get it going.  Damn, it's tough to run on the Steelers D.

3rd and 8 coming up. Another false start!  WTF?  Come on Garza!  The guards shouldn't be jumping.

Hey, nifty little play by the Bears as they get a quick hitter to Bennett and he gets an escort to the first down marker.  Nice play!

WOW.  Cutler rolls right and tosses it up to Knox but he can't come down with it.

Steelers Scott:
Wow! I thought Knox may have had that. That would have been huge!

Bears Mike:
Forte knifes through for a short gain on 2nd down and a key 3rd down coming up.

Steelers Scott:
I feel like Forte would be a great fit on the Steelers - he's got that quick fancy footwork.

Bears Mike:

Steelers overloaded the left side and the Bears had no chance there.

7:15 left 3rd quarter.
Steelers Scott:

Nice hole! 20 yard return. I thought he had more.

Jay Cutler is from Santa Claus, Ind.? Ho-ho-ho. I had no idea.

Steelers Scott:
Alright Steelers - let's put this away. This close game thing was funny for a while, but now I'm getting tired of it.

Bears Mike:
Big Ben hits Mendenhall on a little dump off and the local kid shows off some moves to get a first down.

Mark Anderson with a dumb penalty to gift wrap 15 for the Steelers.

Mendenahall breaks free and picks up 39 yards to get it inside the 5.  DAMMIT!!!

Steelers Scott
Anderson. 15 yard. Unnecessary roughness on Miller. That's big.

6:03 left 3rd quarter.
Steelers Scott
:
INSIDE THE 5!! Can you hear me clapping? CLAP CLAP CLAP. W00t!!

Bears Mike:

Steelers take a time out to regroup when Ben sees something he doesn't like at the line.

Steelers Scott:
I have no idea why there are no nachos in this office. Not a single one.

Bears Mike:

Clearly Scott is chalking up the score because he's looking for nachos.

And rightfully so, as Alex Brown loses the edge containment and Big Ben rumbles in for a 2 yard touchdown.  Come on Cutler!  We need you now!

Steelers Scott
:
BEN, you jumping fool, you!! Dude, that was awesome. 13-7 Steelers.

Take that back. 14-7. Show that replay. That was an awesome jump. And there it is. Wow.

5:26 left in the 3rd
Bears Mike:

Rookie mistake there as Afalava gets flagged on Knox's stellar return.  Brings the Bears back to the 13.  Forte with a catch for 9 yards and then a plunge for the first down.

They just flashed the stat that Forte only has 13 rushing yards.  Ick.

Cutler did well to avoid the initial rush, but ran out of places to go and has to eat it.  This is progress from last week, when he would have thrown it to the other team.

The Bears try to set up the bubble screen to Hester but he's too busy dancing to gain any yardage.  There's a fine line between patience and foolishness and Devin on the wrong side of it.

Forte gets the ball on a draw play as the Turner basically gives up on that drive.  Logan brings it back out to the Steelers' 36 to set up good field position for Pittsburgh.

2:22 left 3rd quarter
Steelers Scott:

Just a 9-yard return for Logan, but damn it looked like so much more.

No. 39 gets to the 50. Nice run, Parker.

Bears Mike:

Look at that rain coming down.  Damn.

0:43 left 3rd quarter

3rd and 9 and Holmes comes up with a huge catch right between the LB's and the safeties.  That's how you beat the Cover 2.

Steelers Scott
That rain is really coming down now. 3rd and 9.

BEAUTIFUL throw to Holmes. Down at the 26. 1st down.

End of the 3rd quarter

Steelers Scott: Steelers are moving and shaking. We can so do this!

In between quarter note to self: Inform bosses tomorrow that all sports bloggers deserve access to snacks. Even the Bears blogger.

Bears Mike:

Thanks Scott.  I still don't like you, but will at least acknowledge your attempt at being nice.

Start of the 4th quarter
Bears Mike:
The defense looks like they're wearing down.  Steelers popping little underneath passes for short gains.  Annoying to watch, but effective as hell.

Nice play by Alex Brown to bust that play up in the backfield.

3rd and 9 coming up.  Let's go D.  Hold em!

Down goes Roethlisbeger for a big loss on the sack by Brown.  He's on fire.

Reed's attempt is NO GOOD!!!  Somehow the Bears hold off the Steelers.  WOW!!!

Steelers Scott:

C'mon Reed! Reed!!! You never miss, dude. What are you doing?

Ok. That sucked. Only thing worse than lack of nachos is lack of scoring after an exciting drive.

Bears Mike:
Save that crying for your Terrible Towel Scott!  Boo freakin' hoo!  And...
NO NACHOS FOR YOU!!!

11:00 left in the 4th
Knox gets another catch but a short run by Forte sets up another 3rd down!  Soldier Field explodes as Hester pulls in that Cutler pass.  Nice job evading the rush!

10:16 left 4th quarter.
Steelers Scott

Nice throw by Cutler and nice catch by Hester. 12 very much deserved yards right there for the Bears.

Bears Mike:
A 29 yard catch by Olsen as he and Carter get re-acquainted.  Nice job hanging on Greg!

Cutler is feeling it.  An 8-yard pass from Cutler to Kellen Davis.  Bears inside the 15.

Another copletion by Cutler.  This one to Olsen to get it to a 1st and goal.

Great job throwing that one away.  Hey look, we're learning.

2nd and goal.  With just over 7 minutes left...

Forte brings it down to the 7 on a 1 yard run.

Critical 3rd down here.

Knox with the TD!!! Great grab as the Steelers brought the heat on Cutler!

Knox has this little Soriano hop when he catches it!  NICE!!!!  Let's go D!!!!

6:25 left 4th quarter
Steelers Scott:

DAMN IT. Wasn't supposed to be this close at any time and definitely not this late in the game.

Nice drive, Jay Cutler. Nice. Waving my Terrible Towel so hard my freakin' arm hurts.

Bears Mike:
Steelers bring it back close to the 30.  It's time for the defense to step it up. Another TV timeout lets me catch my breath and plug in my portable defibrillator.

Steelers Scott:
It's true what the announcers said - this is where Roethlisberger shines - he loves driving quickly - that no-huddle offense is going to make an appearance here.

First down. Nice throw to Ward.

Bears Mike:
Steelers are moving it well.  I don't like this.  Step it up D!!!

Couple of slip and falls out there.

If the field is this bad in Week 2, what's it going to look like in December?

Steelers Scott
Damn. Holmes couldn't grab that and that wet field is certainly not helping matters.

Bears Mike:
Just over 4 minutes left to play.  Briggs brings some heat and nothing doing.

Steelers Scott
Briggs was all over that ... Ouch. 3rd and 5? Hmmmm.

Bears Mike:

Alex Brown is down on the field and another time out is called.  We cannot afford to lose any more defenders!  Hope it's not serious.  He's been on fire late in the game.

Steelers Scott
Beautiful! Roethlisberger runs for 1st down. Nice play!!

Bears Mike:

He dragged Brown's replacement across the down marker.

Steelers Scott:
Beautiful! Roethlisberger runs for 1st down. Nice play!!

Bears Mike:
Hey look, Tommie Harris.  It's not good when the first time your name is mentioned is with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.  Time out Bears.

Tillman with great coverage on Holmes.  No catch.  Reed comes on to try one from 38...

MISSED IT AGAIN!!!!

YEEESSSS!!!!

3:23 left 4th quarter
Steelers Scott

C'mon Reed - you got this - and ... and .... WTF? Dude never misses. Except today. Twice.

Bears Mike:
Forte with a nice catch on the screen.  FUMBLE!!!  Greg Olsen is Johnny on the spot to cover it up.

It's going down to the 2 minute warning with the Bears on a 3rd and 4 coming up just out of Robbie Gould's range.  Could be 4 down territory here.  Let's go!

Steelers Scott:

This is going to be one heck of a close here.
Never saw this coming in a million years. Was sure we'd have it put away by now.

Bears Mike:

Devin Hester with the catch for the 1st down!  Just out of Gould's range, the red line on the field.

Bears go conservative with Forte on the ground and the Steelers take a time out.

Another Forte run and the Steelers burn their last time out.

Bears go really conservative and run it again.  They're pinning their hopes on Gould.

Bears let it run down as much as they can.

0:21 left from 44 yards...

SOLID GOULD!!!!

0:20 left 4th quarter.
Steelers Scott
Comes down to Robbie Gould. Wow. Wow. Wet field. Can he do better than Reed?

15 seconds is forever in football.

Bears Mike:

Steelers turn it over on the kick return and that seals the win for the Bears!

Steelers Scott:

And that's it. Nice game, Bears. Nice game.
Bears stepped it up. Nice defense. Cutler did awesome. And Jeff Reed just completely let the Steelers down with 2 very rare misses. Wow.
There are no tears in my towel. Not this week. It's sad, but I'm glad it was a good game.

Thank you, Bears Mike for the opportunity to blog with you. I blame it on the nachos.

Bears Mike:
Thanks Scott.  It was a pleasure.  Tough loss!

Thanks to all the Bears fans out there.  A great win helps the Bears bounce back.  Plenty of coverage on Bears Game Day and Bear Goggles On.

Early reports from Soldier Field aren't too complimentary about the condition of the new sod.

Plus Johnny Knox to handle kickoff duties:

Not surprised about the sod. It could get really dicey if the rain rolls in heavy.

That rain looks like it's coming during the game:

Does anyone really believe the sod will hold today? I'm sure the field will make the Bears organization look silly to a national t.v. audience.....once again, thank you Chicago Park District. The McCaskeys should have built their own stadium.

Looks like the rain is moving north and west and away - here's hoping!

We could really use a secondary today.

Well, at least they are showing they can tackle. Yes, 10-15 yards down the field.

Does anyone else notice how much bigger the Steelers Offensive line looks compared to the Bears' Defensive line?

Bears Defense is looking soft, the Steelers are running and passing at will.

The Bears Offense ... two possessions and zero first downs ... enough said.

I will be glad when Angelo, Lovie and this inept coaching staff are fired after this season.

Didn't Olsen drop a pass just like that 3rd down pass against the packers?

Jay Grossman.....nice throw......

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Call him what you want they both have the same thing in common. A shitty O line that can't block a 3-4 defense.

MtVernonBach said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

you are absolutely correct.....

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

missed a golden opportunity there

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

No pressure in the QBs face again. They rush 6 and nobody gets to him. What a joke. Cutler can't take a snap without somebody in his face and Cheeseburger has all day.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Can anybody catch a wet ball? Get some stick em....

Bill80 said:

user-pic

One plus of having an obnoxious QB: more roughing the passer penalties.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

so I'm counting 5 drops so far?

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

can't be 3, olsen, davis, peterson 2x, that's 4

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Add another.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Not Steak Ums......Stick Em....

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

I really like this Knox kid.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

of course he can't hold on to it....

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

The Bears O line is so damn slow they cause Forte to have to run into the defenders on screens.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Can somebody please go see Cutler this week and let him know it is okay to tuck it and run. Please.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

A.P. showing why the fans love him. Should run a split backfield with both Forte and Peterson all the time. Olsen is killing me. Two weeks in a row that he is costing us. Get some longer cleats and hold on to the damn ball.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Way to go A.P. The first Peterson....

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Stupid play calling yet again. Somebody Kick Turner's ass for me.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

the Red Zone is where Turner tends to really show his deficiency as an OC. 2nd down should've been playaction

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Play action? Now there is a concept.....or how about one of those routes the Bears have yet to learn to cover. A quick slant.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

hmmm, that's something other teams do, not the Bears. lol

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Finally!!!!!!!!!

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

way to hold on Davis!!!

MtVernonBach said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

nice catch....he took a shot and held on.........

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

He took a hell of a shot to the head. I see a fine coming this week.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

WOW That was a quick first half. That means a ton of TV timeouts in the second half.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

that's one thing the Bears receivers have been weak on, not only just catching the ball, but hanging on to it when they get hit.

Scott Kleinberg said:

user-pic

Wow. That was a crazy first half. I was thinking it would be 17-3 Steelers by halftime or something. 7-7 is a surprise. So far, Cutler's playing pretty well. Should be a great 2nd half.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

How much money is this bum going to suck out of the Cubs organiztion if they cut him?

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Big difference in Cutler this week...Last week it seemed like he kept trying to go for the big play, this week, he's taking what the D is giving him.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

This week he is playing like a leader/captain.

Doug Thonus said:

user-pic

Can't complain about that half much. I expected the Bears to get beat up good in this game, so to make it to the half tied isn't bad.

I suppose that's setting the bar awfully low, since to win, the Bears are going to have to be better. Especially the defense, which gave up a huge opening drive and was getting killed on the next drive prior to the interception.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Need a big defensive stand to open this half.

Doug Thonus said:

user-pic

Not feeling too optimistic on that. Big Ben is slicing up the defense so far.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

He has been untouched. So you are right but that was a big set of downs

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Yes! There it is!

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Right on cue. Way to go D!!!!! Side note....they still have not put Ben on his rear.

Doug Thonus said:

user-pic

After calling the big opening stand by the D, you have to call for a TD ;)

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Wanted to but the Steelers are bringing all the heat the Bears can't seem to.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Chris Williams couldn't block my mom in her wheelchair on that play. Now run up the middle. Stupid play calling.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Nice coverage on the punt. But 3 and out does not boad well for a D with no pass rush today.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

this time Big Ben is taking a seat or two!

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

I'll take incompletions too though...

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Thank god Holmes didn't catch that. The Cover Who? left him wide open.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

FINALLY.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

HAVE A SEAT BEN!

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Okay now comes a strong drive.

MtVernonBach said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

nice coverage downfield finally......sack!!!

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

here comes the deep pass to Hester!

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

If only Cutler could get the time to throw it.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

What the hell????

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

well, the deep pass was on that 1st down play anyway....

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

...deep pass was open...(i meant)

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Should have been an audible to the right.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Was holding by 74 on Hunter.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

I saw the exact same thing!

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Now they are trying to self implode

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Orlando Pace can't outrun himself.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

There was smart play calling.....NOT

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

a draw play? A f-ing draw play? Do you think Turner comes into these games with a strategy or just throws darts at a dartboard?

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

I don't think he is smart enough to throw a dart.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Another holding not called.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

**sigh**

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

My God. The Cover Who strikes again. Somebody tell Lovie that D never works if you can't put a pass rush up the middle.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Game over. They found the run and the slant.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

I've come to the conclusion that Grossman/Orton/Cutler, it's not going to matter with Ron Turner at the wheel.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

You are right. Turner and that O line and Cover Who there is no chance in hell.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Quit celebrating, you are losing dumb ass.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

wow, we got lucky there, you think we can capitalize?

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Don't know can they block?

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Forte not running up field. Whats up with that?

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Way to go Hester and Cutler on the scramble.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

was that a playaction pass?!?!

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Leading with his head. Should have been a penalty on the Safety

Colorado Bears Fan said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Forte is starting to piss me off, he isnt running hard. A few plays ago he got "zero" yards on a second donand three, and he could have put his head down and powered forward for at least 2-3 yards to get the first down.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Cutler should run it on a draw.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

now that would've been a good time for a draw play

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

on that 1st down

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Again no play action.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

I told you I like this kid Knox.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

you got your slant, not exactly quick, but we got a TD out of it!

Colorado Bears Fan said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Johnny Knox is the man!! Great throw by JC!

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Linebackers are dropping off too damn deep.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

we need a takeaway here...

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Holding again.....

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Finally somebody hit his ass.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Great anonther injury.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Briggs gets tackled and there is no call again.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

plz plz plz, get a turnover!

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Somebody get Tillman some longer cleats.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

GREAT D TILLMAN!

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Peanut finally made a play. Got away with illegal contact but I'll take it.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

MISSED IT AGAIN! That's as good as a turnover!

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Okay Jay time to win the hearts of the Fans of Chicago. Lets do it. All the way for a TD.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Now I need a drink. Forte should know to hold on to the ball better then that.

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

screen play would be great right here, seems like we've been getting at least 5 yds on every screen

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

Play calling sucked there.

VABeachJason said:

user-pic

YES GOOD AS GOULD BABY

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

whew, still 15 seconds tho, Falcons game last year reminds me that anything can happen

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

did we really just win?

PKinWL said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

hey man, it was fun blogging the game with ya!

Scott Kleinberg said:

user-pic

I'm stunned. Great game, Bears. I can't dispute the fact that they really stepped it up and played a good game.

Craig Kanalley said:

user-pic

I realize the party may be over here, but if you haven't seen it yet... here's TwitPics from Soldier Field today ... love the blimp shot and the honeymoon one.
