The husband of a woman who died in a bicycle accident is suing the manufacturer of the helmet she was wearing at the time.
Eric Singer says that on May 18, 2003, his wife Donna was wearing a helmet that was made by defendant Giro Sport Design.
The complaint states that Donna Singer was riding her bicycle on a track in Millington, Tennessee, in conjunction with the Memphis in May triathlon, when she fell and the helmet "made contact with the track surface."
The complaint further states that the helmet was in an unreasonably dangerous condition because it was, among other things, "designed and manufactured with an improper and unsafe suspension system that provided inadequate separation between Donna Singer's head and the liner under reasonably foreseeable circumstances."
As a result of her injuries, Donna died on November 8, 2005, the complaint states.

The daughter of a woman who slipped and fell at the Washington Mutual Bank on West Morse Avenue is suing for wrongful death.
According to the complaint, on December 11, 2007, Rose Marie Moreno was entering the bank when she fell due to a "foreign substance on the floor." The complaint states that the bank had a duty to keep the entrance area free from foreign substances, including snow and rain that had been blown or tracked into the bank.
Moreno suffered injuries which led to her death on January 13, 2008, the complaint states. She is survived by her daughter Tabatha, the plaintiff.

The estate of a man allegedly held by his legs from the second floor window of his home by two Chicago police officers is suing the city and the individual police officers.
According to the complaint, on March 10, 2009, police officers Henry Thomas and Patrick Kane entered the home of Matthias Mayhorn without permission, came into contact with Mayhorn on the second floor, threatened him with injury and/or death by hanging him by his legs out of the second floor window, fired a weapon at him while he was hanging out of the window, dropped him onto the pavement below and delayed in summoning medical assistance.
Thomas and Kane also interviewed witnesses and investigated the occurrence in an improper fashion, the complaint states.
Mayhorn died on March 10, 2009.

The estate of a man stabbed to death with a medieval dagger is suing the man who stabbed him in civil court after he was acquitted in criminal court on the theory of self-defense.
According to the complaint, in the early morning hours of March 5, 2008, decedent Terrance M. Hauser and defendant Joseph Biedermann met at a local bar in Hoffman Estates and then went back to Hauser's apartment where Biedermann stabbed Hauser 61 times in the throat, abdomen, buttocks, back, groin, hands, face and chest.
Among the causes of action asserted in the complaint are wrongful death.

The estate of a man struck and killed by a CTA bus is suing the CTA and the bus driver.
According to the complaint, on September 17, 2009, Donald Hall was operating a CTA bus near the southeast corner of Jeffrey Boulevard and 95th Street when he "failed to observe [Michael C. Payne], a disabled man approaching from the bus shelter and [failed to] stop the bus prior to striking him."
Michael C. Payne was run over by the bus and sustained injuries that resulted in his death the same day, the complaint states.

The estate of a woman who committed suicide is suing Northwestern Memorial Hospital for wrongful death.
On August 5, 2004, Marilee Graham became a patient of the hospital and on August 6, 2004, she committed suicide, the complaint states.
The complaint asserts that Northwestern Memorial Hospital "carelessly and negligently left [Marilee] alone in a room with the means and opportunity to commit suicide."
The complaint also states that Marilee Graham had numerous risk factors for suicide, including her recent suicide attempt, which the hospital failed to consider.

The estate of a deceased heroin addict is suing the Cook County Sheriff for wrongful death after the man commits suicide in jail.
According to the complaint, on September 27, 2008, the decedent Joseph Demouchette, a 30 year old father of four and heroin addict, was arrested and allegedly "dope-sick" from heroin withdrawal. Demouchette vomited multiple times, tried to get the guards' attention to ask for medical help and told his cellmate that he would hang himself to get the guards' attention, the complaint states.
The complaint further states that Demouchette tied his bed sheet to the window and then around his neck and that his cellmate witnessed him hanging from the sheet and choking and sought help. Several other inmates sought help by yelling and pounding on the door of the "dayroom" for 20 to 30 minutes. Plaintiffs assert that when defendant correctional officer Richard Mason finally went to check on him, Demouchette was hanging from the sheet, unconscious and pale. When paramedics arrived, they cut down Demouchette, administered CPR and transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on September 28, 2008.

The estate of a Riverdale man shot last week by police is now suing the town and police officer for wrongful death.
In the middle of the day on Thursday, August 20, 2009, according to the complaint, Brandon Harper was sitting in his car outside his mother's house in Riverdale when police officer Anthony Milton pulled up, drew his gun and shot Harper, who eventually died.
Harper is the father of a son, Brandon Harper Jr. and an unborn child, the complaint states.

A father is suing Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Hinsdale and Dr. Tareyk S. Husayni for medical negligence, wrongful death, inappropriate medication and a survival action in the death of his infant son.
According to the complaint, on May 16, 2008, parents Eli J. Haig and Polla Haig brought their son Eli G. Haig to Hinsdale Hospital at the direction of Dr. Husayni, an agent and employee Advocate Christ Hospital.
Dr. Husayni advised the ER doctor at Hinsdale to give Eli G. Haig fluids intravenously and to administer Versed.
Versed was then given nasally to the infant.
Infant Eli died thereafter, survived by his mother, father and twin sister Francesca.
