A woman is suing American Airlines after allegedly being exposed to toxic fumes during a flight, causing her to suffer a nearly fatal stroke.
Vida Chenier says that on March 26, 2008, she was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 2073 from O'Hare to San Juan, Puerto Rico, when the following occurred:
- Toxic fumes or contaminated 'bleed air' allegedly entered the passenger cabin through the aircraft's ventilation system.
- Chenier began experiencing hypoxia, also known as oxygen deprivation, as well as difficulty breathing and began to cough violently and develop a severe headache.
- In the two days following her arrival in San Juan, Chenier's symptoms worsened and on March 29, 2008, she began to cough up blood.
- On April 4, 2008, Chenier suffered a nearly fatal stroke.

A CPS student who was allegedly hit with a brick while riding the school bus is suing CPS.
Akiya Johnson, who is now an adult, says that from November or December of 2004 through January of 2005, her school bus drove each day through an intersection where, on more than one occassion, unknown individuals threw snowballs and rocks at the bus.
According to the complaint, Johnson's mother called defendants regarding the attacks, but no route adjustment or other corrective measures were taken.
On February 22, 2005, at least one rock and/or brick was thrown at the bus, broke the window and struck Akiya Johnson in the left eye, the complaint states.
Johnson is also suing, among others, the Board of Education and the individual bus driver.

A woman who was bucked from a horse she was riding for recreation is suing the equestrian center.
Michelle Welty says that on July 3, 2009, while at Forest View Farms, she was assigned to ride a horse named "Cookie" and prior to mounting the horse, she told Forest View Farms personnel that she was an inexperienced rider.
The complaint states that Cookie repeatedly stopped to eat grass and the lead rider of Welty's riding group, who was under the age of 18, told Welty to pull on the horse's reins when the horse stopped to eat.
The complaint then states that upon pulling Cookie's reins as instructed by the lead rider, Welty was bucked and thrown off the horse.
According to the complaint, Forest View Farms "provided a disobedient and reckless equine for [Welty] to ride," among other things.

A woman says she was injured while Oswego police yanked a man from his car, causing it to run into her vehicle.
Monica Hernandez says that two Oswego police officers tried to stop two men from leaving a shopping center parking lot and, as they attempted to pull one of them from the vehicle, it violently collided with the car she was driving.
The complaint states that Hernandez was taken to the hospital and sustained head, neck and lower back injuries.
Hernandez is suing the police officers, the police department and the Village of Oswego.

The estate of a man allegedly held by his legs from the second floor window of his home by two Chicago police officers is suing the city and the individual police officers.
According to the complaint, on March 10, 2009, police officers Henry Thomas and Patrick Kane entered the home of Matthias Mayhorn without permission, came into contact with Mayhorn on the second floor, threatened him with injury and/or death by hanging him by his legs out of the second floor window, fired a weapon at him while he was hanging out of the window, dropped him onto the pavement below and delayed in summoning medical assistance.
Thomas and Kane also interviewed witnesses and investigated the occurrence in an improper fashion, the complaint states.
Mayhorn died on March 10, 2009.

The estate of a man stabbed to death with a medieval dagger is suing the man who stabbed him in civil court after he was acquitted in criminal court on the theory of self-defense.
According to the complaint, in the early morning hours of March 5, 2008, decedent Terrance M. Hauser and defendant Joseph Biedermann met at a local bar in Hoffman Estates and then went back to Hauser's apartment where Biedermann stabbed Hauser 61 times in the throat, abdomen, buttocks, back, groin, hands, face and chest.
Among the causes of action asserted in the complaint are wrongful death.

A school janitor is suing the Chicago Board of Education and Chicago Public Schools after a portable heater/fan was dropped on her foot.
Yolanda Hallom says that on November 14, 2008, while working at Roswell B. Mason Elementary School as a janitor, "an agent and/or servant" of the defendants was carrying a portable heater/fan that dropped on her foot.
Hallom asserts that the defendants were negligent when they, among other things, "carelessly and negligently dropped a heavy item upon plaintiff."
Yolanda's husband, Tracy, is also suing for loss of consortium.
