Judicial Watch, which describes itself as a non-profit organization seeking to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in government, says that on September 25, 2009, it served a FOIA request on the Mayor's Office seeking access to public records regarding Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Among the request was all correspondence between the Mayor's Office and President Obama, Michelle Obama and White House Staff regarding the bid.
The Mayor's Office acknowledged receipt of the request on October 1, 2009, the complaint states, and granted itself an additional seven days. When time ran out, Judicial Watch appealed to the Mayor as head of the public body but has not heard back.
