A class action lawsuit was filed against Medieval Times alleging failure to comply with laws requiring information on credit and debit card receipts to be truncated in order to prevent theft.
According to the complaint, Medieval Times is in violation of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, which says that "No person that accepts credit cards ...shall print more than the last 5 digits of the card number or the expiration date upon any receipt provided to the cardholder at the point of sale or transaction."
The complaint states that the plaintiffs used their credit or debit cards at Medieval Times and received receipts containing the expiration date of the card.
The complaint further states that the publication of the expiration date in addition to the last four or five digits of the account number exponentially increases the possibility of identity theft.
