A social networking site filed a petition today to get information from Twitter about who is posting defamatory statements about it.
Social Action Network, which describes itself as a company that owns SoAct.net, a social networking site, says that certain anonymous individuals, who go by the moniker bobandscott on Twitter, are posting defamatory statements about it.
Among the defamatory statements, SoAct says the individuals in question have stated that they are engaged in fraud and stock scams.
Now, SoAct wants the court to order Twitter to give them the names of the users, their addresses, phone numbers, all IP addresses, ISP information, credit card information and any other identifying information - all without alerting the users that they are providing such information to SoAct so that the evidence is not compromised.
Read the complaint after the jump.

Yeah, THAT'LL happen... And this is supposedly a "social action" organization which is demanding this material? I didn't realize phishers had gone socially-conscious--because that's essentially what this is, an attempt to make the courts order a phishing expedition on these particular Twitter users! What, didn't the "your SoAct ac0unt has been c0mpromized/please log in w yr SSN and credit-card number" e-mail get them the info they wanted? lol...
If we suddenly find ourselves in Bizarro World and the courts DO force Twitter to hand the info over, I will move to the mountains, off the grid somewhere, because clearly the court system will have gone completely mad.
