The estate of a man stabbed to death with a medieval dagger is suing the man who stabbed him in civil court after he was acquitted in criminal court on the theory of self-defense.
According to the complaint, in the early morning hours of March 5, 2008, decedent Terrance M. Hauser and defendant Joseph Biedermann met at a local bar in Hoffman Estates and then went back to Hauser's apartment where Biedermann stabbed Hauser 61 times in the throat, abdomen, buttocks, back, groin, hands, face and chest.
Among the causes of action asserted in the complaint are wrongful death.

]]>It reminds me of something I first heard in law school. There was a similar case - a stabbing over 50 times - and the prosecutor closed with 50 stabbing motions. Point being that it takes awhile. After 10 or 20, there is no doubt that the person who was threatening you is now subdued.
