Former Cicero cop says he was fired for race, not marijuana possession

A former Cicero cop is suing the town for racial discrimination after he was fired for marijuana possession.

According to the complaint, plaintiff and former officer Wesley Scott was arrested for possession of marijuana but the case was dismissed.  Still, the complaint states, he was terminated in a letter reading "Regardless of the status of your criminal case, your conduct is unbecoming of a Town of Cicero Police Commander."

The complaint further asserts that plaintiff was the first African American employed as a cop by the town and he was employed for 22 years.  It also states that "Employees of the Town of Cicero police department who committed offenses much more egregious than those cited in the dismissed complaint against plaintiff who were not African American were not recommended by Defendant Anthony Iniquez for termination from their position."

Read the complaint after the jump.
