Palatine Man Alleges Sexual Harassment by Female Boss
A Palatine man is suing his employer for sexual harassment that he claims he endured by his female boss.
Filed today in the Circuit Court of Cook County, the complaint alleges that Plaintiff William Lott, who is described in the complaint as "an African American male," was subjected to a repeated pattern of sexual harassment and differential treatment by his supervisor at Kenny Construction Company in Northbrook, Laura Manaugh, who is described as a "Caucasian female."
The complaint further alleges that Lott was forced to endure inappropriate comments, innuendos, requests for dates, gestures and other acts of inappropriate conduct. It also states that Manaugh continually stared at Lott's body in a provocative way, asked him out to lunch and to her home for dinner and touched him in ways he found offensive.
The other similarly situated Kenny employee as Lott was a Caucasian female who, the complaint points out, was not subjected to the same or similar comments or actions.
Lott rejected Manaugh's advances, according to the complaint, and he was denied advancement by being denied training opportunities and promotions. Lott claims that, on one occasion, Manaugh locked him out of the computer system he needed in order to do his job. He was eventually terminated and told that his job was "eliminated."
Lott is suing for sexual harassment, race discrimination, retaliation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Cases like this highlight the importance of sexual harassment policies...not that such policies are magic bullets, but if followed they can help to mitigate damages in extreme situations.
