Folk troubador Matt Campbell answered our Chi-Tunes questionnaire. Do the same and your band could appear in RedEye and Metromix!
What makes your live show great?
The sound is ever changing and there is usually a new song or two [in each set]. I've had the good fortune of working with some great people, so there's always a rotating cast of players.
Describe your sound in five words or less.
Straight forward American music
Tell us something random about the band, and why that's significant.
It's never the same for very long. I've recorded and played with all kinds of instrumentation: saloon-style upright piano to Fender Rhodes, acoustic guitars to Rickenbackers and with or without percussion. The songs always resonate despite the change in sound. I think it speaks to the universal nature of music.
Who would you want to work with, and who would you never work with? Why?
I have always been drawn to Columbia Records, no matter how ridiculous it might sound. They have put out some of my very favorite records. It'd be an honor. I'd also like to cut a gospel record. To the other point, I'll play with anyone. It's always an opportunity.
If the band was a '90s sitcom character, who would it be and why?
Kramer. "His whole life is a fantasy camp!"
