Top 10 bands at Taste of Chicago 2010

Matt Pais

I cover music and movies for, with stories appearing in RedEye. Sometimes with a big smiley picture.

I know that most people probably go to the Taste of Chicago for the food and the scene and the opportunity to be nearly swallowed by a gigantic crowd of people, most of whom are sweating profusely. What better setting in which to eat a sample portion of falafel or half-melted frozen cheesecake on a stick?

I kid, I kid. The Taste is a great Chicago tradition, but its musical line-up shouldn't be ignored. I don't get amped for Gavin Rossdale or Los Lonely Boys, but there are always a bunch of solid bands to see for free. This year's got 10 very much worth checking out, including Passion Pit (pictured), Robert Randolph and local rockers White Mystery. See the full list here or scroll through photos below. Then let us know who you're going to see at the Taste!
