Meeting of the Media Minds: Chicago's Diva Series
When I was younger, there was a time I stood on the sidelines, wondering how everyone in the media world seemed to know everyone in the media world; I wondered about the secret for busting into the "crowd." Truthfully, the secret is just that: have no fear and jump right in. But with fierce competition and plenty of qualified professionals in the market, it's incredibly refreshing to see a group of women driven to connect and support each other. Sarah Vargo of Maven is a part of just that: connectors.
Sarah Vargo is the Founder and President of Maven, a self-described "connection" agency whose "strength lies in who we know and how we connect our clients with the right people to achieve their objectives." Think of traditional PR and publicity meeting modern word-of-mouth campaigns in a the form of that girl who just seems to know everyone.
Now, Vargo heads up The Diva Series, a regular event attended by industry professionals to celebrate success, toast exceptional individuals and just enjoy a drink and conversation. "I started the Diva Series two years ago in hopes of recognizing successful and DRIVEN women," says Vargo. "I wanted to get women in the same room who may be competitors or don't know each other so they could come together and form partnerships and appreciation for one another. I also wanted to recognize these women by putting them on a platform for exposure."
The Diva Series twists the term "networking" by mixing swanky Chicago bars such as JBar with the smart, educated, driven professionals you'd see at top-notch, name tag boasting events. Who says networking has to be a bore? The Diva Series has fun with it; you're just having drinks with new friends after work.
"I love honoring rising entrepreneurs and hope the series will motivate and inspire others," says Vargo. The Diva Series has honored women in Fashion, Business, Beauty, Media, PR, Philanthropy, Fitness and more. Some of the themes include Fashionistas (Women in Fashion), Beautiful Gems (Women in Beauty and Fashion), Media Mavens (Media and PR), Angels (Philanthropy), Players (Women in Fitness), and most recently, Industry Icons.
"This event is intended for accomplished women, their supporters and those who need some inspiration while enjoying a fun cocktail party. I feel there is a Diva in everyone woman waiting to come out!"
I'm raising a glass to Sarah Vargo for initiating such an amazing networking and celebratory opportunity for people to connect, congratulate and come together!
