Labor Day Weekend: Last Chance to Wear White Until Next Memorial Day?

I'd rather juggle a million projects that keep me busy than manage one day-in-day-out job. So, I'm always running! And it's all with a smile, of course.

Ever wonder why we're told not to wear white after Labor Day? Time.com gives the history of this fashion "rule" and how it's evolved over the years. With the rising popularity of winter white, the stigma hardly holds true these days, but in my opinion, it all comes down to fabric. So make your Labor Day weekend choices wisely; you may be packing up those clothes until next year!

White linen and cotton are reserved for summer not only because of their cooling color, but because the fabrics are breezy and evoke the feeling of being on a beach. According to the linked article, "In the early 20th century, white was the uniform of choice for Americans well-to-do enough to decamp from their city digs to warmer climates for months at a time; light summer clothing provided a pleasing contrast to drabber urban life." Even today, countless images of celebrities heading for the Hamptons or Saint Barths show them dressed in casually chic, loose-fitting, white clothes.

So in honor of Labor Day weekend, bust out your white linen pants, white cotton sweater and white, raffia wedge heels one last time before next summer and enjoy the holiday weekend. Until next summer, get cozy with lots of nudes, camels, and winter whites in rich textures and fabrics suitable for colder months. Say goodbye to some of the pieces below and hello to a few fall/winter ivory bags and must-have wardrobe additions!
