TheRubHub.com: Facebook and Yelp for Holistic Health

Getting an amazing massage or facial is a wonderful thing, but having to pay for a mediocre service at a lame spa is the pits! There's no reason to ever receive a sub-par massage, spa service, or to see a holistic therapist who doesn't specialize in your health concern because Chicago has hundreds of amazing therapists, but up until now there was no place to find them.

But thankfully, twin sisters Dawn Kuschewski Gilbert and Denise Kuschewski came up with a solution: TheRubHub.com.
Part Yelp, Facebook and your favorite spa blog, the RubHub allows therapists to create free profiles and allows customers to search for specific services as well as review and recommend their favorite spas, therapists and healthy businesses.

"Dawn came up with the idea about three years ago," says Denise. "We knew so many amazing massage therapists and wanted to help them promote their business and we feel like a lot of people are looking for alternatives to traditional medicine, so we also wanted to be a place to search for the best practitioners."

The site allows therapists, who aren't normally tech types, to create a profile, get a vanity URL (therubhub.com/profile/yourname) and get a badge for their site that redirects to their RubHub profile- all for free! 

In addition to reviews, site visitors can search for a service by keyword or use an extensive drop-down menu (there are 24 sub-categories under Bodywork with definitions for each type of service) and there's more to come. Denise plans to write a holistic health and wellness blog and the site will eventually feature daily spa deals.

For now, the RubHub team is busy getting the word out about the site through Facebook, Twitter and their Meetup group. I went to the inaugural event on March 9th and had a blast! It was a great networking experience and they offered free auricular acupuncture, a large selection of wines, PUSH muscle therapy treatments (I can't wait to blog about this), mini manicures and much more.
