The American Apparel Yoga Model

user-pic

One of my favorite blogs, Elephant Journal, posted these American Apparel yoga collection pics earlier this week. I couldn't (and still can't) tell if the joke is on them or on us. As Elephant Journal points out, "If you're going to model yoga, at least know how to do it. This young lady's alignment is gonna send her to the hospital before long--that is, if she practiced yoga, ever, which she clearly. Does. Not."

I've dealt with a lot from American Apparel because I believe in supporting fair labor practices, but they would've been better off finding a model who knew what she was doing (can't be that hard to find a yoga model in LA) or just had this girl lay over something like the models featured in other ads. I posted a link to the Elephant Journal blog on my Facebook page soon after discovering this on Twitter and as you can see from the comments below, I'm not the only one a little peeved by these images.

Picture 4 is the most ridiculous, what happened to standing leg straight before attempting to straighten the leg in your hand? ahh so bad

Hahahaha..oh man. I was just about to say "I'm not going to post what I did on facebook, as it's probably not blog-appropriate" but I'm glad you posted it for me. American Apparel is just shameful!

Mallory, I couldn't agree more, although that attempt at Triangle or Side-Angle pose (not really sure what she's doing) is KILLING me!
Jen, your comment was the inspiration for the FB screen shot. Ha!

Well folks, you fell for it. American Apparel is not getting FREE publicity for their yoga clothes. American Apparel's yoga clothes will obviously work whether you do yoga or not... Genius advertising if I may say so. Could have been an oversight, but genius.
