When I first started working out, I didn't understand why anyone would pay $40 for a tank top or $100 for a pair of pants that you were just going to get all sweaty and I was completely content with working out in ratty shirts and cheap black pants. I learned the hard way that playing tug of war with ill-fitting clothes can be a major distraction during yoga and now I practically live in workout clothes, so it's important for me to have durable, flattering and functional yoga apparel that easily transitions from day to downward dog. When I'm not on the mat, I write content for an online shopping site, BradsDeals, so I've become an expert at searching out coupons and perusing sales. Here are my top tips on how to save money on yoga clothes and accessories, including a listing of stores with great deals currently going on, because updating your exercise wardrobe shouldn't take away from your budget for classes.
Sign up for Mailing Lists- In exchange for a few random emails, you really will be the first to know about new products, special events and sales. The same goes for Twitter. I have a special "junk" email account that I use for entering contests, newsletter sign up, etc. I try to check it at least once a day to make sure I'm on top of what's going on with companies I like. Nearly all of the coupon codes and special deals below were sent to me via newsletter signup.

Shop around- Before you purchase anything, check out online shopping sites like BradsDeals that keeps track of sales and coupons for a ton of sites. You'd be surprised what you can find on sale. I also recommend comparing prices at PriceGrabber, but be weary of random merchants. Consider sales tax and shipping- What I love most about shopping online is not having to pay the ridiculous Illinois sales tax. Stores can only charge tax to states where they have employees and/or retail locations, which can save you a pretty penny since Chicago has one of the highest rates in the country. Consider that while you're shopping as well as the cost of shipping. There's nothing worse than finding something at a great price, adding it to your cart and realizing shipping is going to cost almost as much as the item you want. Unless it's an absolutely amazing online only deal, I don't bother purchasing things from stores that have locations in Chicago because it's generally going to cost less if I pay the train fare to buy directly from the store once sales tax and shipping come into play--but do keep an eye out for free site to store shipping. Where to find great deals on yoga apparel and accessories (these won't be around for long, so act fast):
yogadownload.jpg

YogaDownload- It's hard for me to follow along to dvds sometimes, but I love the mp3 classes from YogaDownload. It's like having a teacher in the room to guide you while you do your thing, without having to look at the screen, pause or rewind. If you've been finding it harder to get to the studio and don't have a home practice just yet, test out one of the free YogaDownload 20-minute classes. If you like it, use code HALLOWEEN to take 50% off your entire order (ends at Midnight on 10/31). They've got everything from beginner to level 3 power yoga, so you're sure to find something that fits your needs.

Adidas- I've been watching the new Rainbeau Mars yoga collection for awhile now, waiting patiently to find a good deal on the eco-friendly clothes and shoes from the popular yoga instructor. Finally, I found 30% off code BATON on BradsDeals. Not only does it work on the Rainbeau collection, but it also works on Adidas originals, running gear and sale items (but not Stella McCartney for Adidas). Great Deal: Rainbeau Mars Track Top, originally $90 and now $63

Amazon- I love Amazon. I can literally spend hours searching for healthy lifestyle books, apparel and cooking gadgets. Before I make any online purchase, I see if Amazon has it at a lower price. Try to only purchase things sold by Amazon because you'll avoid Illinois sales tax, slow shipping from third party sellers and most likely be able to take advantage of their free super saver shipping with orders of $25 or more. Note that prices can change on the hour at Amazon, so if something is super cheap, it likely won't be that way for long. Great Deals: Hyde Twisted Seam Organic Cotton Yoga Leggings, retail for $66 (currently on sale at Hyde for $44) and I scored a pair for $16.50. Yogitoes Skidless Towel for $40, about $20 less than most studios. Be Present- Click on the Special tabs on the Be Present site to save up to 30% off yoga clothes for men and women.
hydealignmentknickers.jpg

Hyde- While prices aren't as good as my rare Amazon find, the Hyde online store currently takes up to 40% off select styles. Hyde is a small eco-friendly company that uses organic cotton and makes comfortable, practical yoga clothes. I love the way my new tights feel and I'll definitely be checking this site in the future when I need a good deal. Great Deal: Hyde Alignment Knickers, originally $65 and now $39.
LucySexyBackTee.jpg

Lucy- Lucy is all about stylish and functional gym, running and yoga apparel. They're currently having an awesome 50% off sale, offering free shipping on all orders and through November 16, they take 20% off all regular priced items via code 1009EWORKOUT. If you're worried about fit, stop by the store in Water Tower Place to try things on before ordering. Great Deal: Sexy Back Tee, originally $52 and now $19.99.
lululemonfeelgoodpants.jpg

Lululemon- Unfortunately, lululemon doesn't really do big sales, but take a good look around your local store, there's bound to be at least one sale rack. Trick is that sizes, color and styles on sale vary by store, so don't be afraid to ask a friendly associate to call another store to see if they have your size in the item you're looking for at the same sale price.
Great Deal: The Feel Good Pant, $78, can be found at some stores in Chicago for $49.
NikePremiumBasicsHoodie.jpg

Nike- You'll need a little patience to get to the actual clearance section, but it's worth it for the deals! Go to Nike.com, choose your region, click on SHOP, scroll down to clearance and click on women or men. Shoes, clothing, gear and gym bags are all marked down by at least 20% and shipping is currently free on all orders via code GIFT (otherwise it's $8). Be sure to sign up for emails too because every so often they send out an extra 20-25% off clearance code. Great Deal: Nike Premium Basics Organic Hoodie with mp3 pocket, originally $65, on sale for $29.99 and just $22.50 after 25% off code!

These are just a few of the great deals I've found online recently. Follow me on Twitter to stay up on other great deals, blog updates and more.

If you don't mind a little trip out of the city, the outlets have great deals on yoga/workout clothes. I get most of my running stuff from the Nike outlet in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., just over the border. The stuff is pretty cheap, but still great quality. They also have an adidas outlet and a few other good spots.

Thanks for the great post!
