Jay Cutler signs two-year contract extension
BY TONY VALDIVIESO
The Chicago Bears have finally found a quarterback who they would like to hang onto, at least for the time being. Last night, Jay Cutler agreed to a two-year contract extension which will keep him in Chicago through the 2013 season.
Sun-Times reporter Mike Mulligan says the deal was a long-time coming: "The new deal is merely an affirmation of the commitment the Bears made to the quarterback when they packaged a pair of first-round picks with Kyle Orton and a swap of a third-round pick for a fifth-rounder (Johnny Knox) to get Cutler in an eye-opening deal," says Mulligan. "You don't pay that sort of price for a player without having a long-term plan for his future."
The news drew mixed reactions from Twitter-users. Some were happy to find out Cutler will stay in Chicago for while others don't think he has earned such an extension yet:
