Brian Urlacher says the derogatory comments he made the other day about Jay Cutler were not meant to be derogatory. You remember Brian Urlacher. He used to play for the Bears. He might even play for them next year.
Urlacher, who before the season reportedly said that Cutler was a "p---y," (no, not "pansy") but then said he didn't say it, is now saying he didn't mean what he said the other day to Yahoo sports which was:
"Look, I love Jay, and I understand he's a great player who can take us a long way, and I still have faith in him. But I hate the way our identity has changed. We used to establish the run and wear teams down and try not to make mistakes, and we'd rely on our defense to keep us in the game and make big plays to put us in position to win. Kyle Orton might not be the flashiest quarterback, but the guy is a winner, and that formula worked for us. I hate to say it, but that's the truth."
This is interesting because Sneed (gesundheit) reported that Urlacher and Cutler ate at Joe's Stone Crab before the Eagles game, so they don't sound like they're enemies.
But it sure sounds as though Urlacher is upset with the way the offense has run under Cutler. You'd think he'd be happy that the defense is terrible now. It needs him. Or it needs what he used to be, especially when he had a great Tommie Harris in front of him.
Urlacher tried to clarify his remarks by telling the Tribune, "I'm not taking a shot at Jay. I'm not one bit taking a shot at Jay. He throws it better, right? And we haven't tried to run the ball as much. That's true."
This is what happens when there's still a month left in the season but nothing to play for. Talk, talk, talk.
Brian Urlacher should just shut up. And then when he shuts up, I will yell at him for clamming up and not being forthcoming.
Why? Because I am a Bear fan, dammit.
