Sports world's consciousness raised on concussions of bats

user-pic

So the Spurs' Manu Ginobili swatted a bat right out of the air on Halloween night and may or may not have killed it. It was the greatest swatting since President Obama killed a fly that was on his wrist while he was being interviewed.

PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, was outraged that Manu would "bludgeon a four-ounce animal to death."

Well, it wasn't a bludgeon. It wasn't even a hard foul. And aren't bats, those flying rodents, dangerous? Their guano is when it drops on you. I love the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, but where is PETA? the People for the Ethical Treatment of Athletes.

You don't let a bat fly around on the court. And, yes, Michael Vick was absolutely wrong with what he did with dogs. But does anyone care about how much harm Michael Vick has exposed himself to in the NFL?

As a quarterback who runs a lot, he's vulnerable to vicious hits. Have you seen the latest stats on how concussions are killing NFL players at young ages? Some NFL players don't make it into their fifties. Holy abbreviated lifespan, Batman.
