Jay's your QB for a long time; no way he's going to be overthrown
The Bears couldn't beat the Eagles, who were without the concussed Brian Westbrook, who wasn't even allowed at team meetings. And you hope he wasn't even allowed to watch this game lest his headaches start coming back.
If you like watching Robbie Gould attempting five field goals so that Jay Cutler could avoid five picks like he had last week, then you enjoyed this game. Gould did have his last attempt blocked, but considering how slippery Soldier Field's sod is, it's amazing Gould was able to keep his balance on any of his kicks.
Cutler threw one great pass to Kellen Davis for a touchdown, but he overthrew three receivers for sure TD's, which was even more startling than the trio of fumbles that Charles Tillman forced.
Rex Grossman's dad, the opthalmologist, who weighed in when no one was asking him about the Bears' chronic quarterbacking woes, might want to use his real expertise and give Cutler an eye exam. Cutler may have depth perception problems. The perception that the Bears have no depth at receiver is wrong. Greg Olsen, Devin Hester and Johnny Knox were all open on those overthrows.
Maybe Cutler needs a heart exam, too. Tony Dungy said Cutler looked scared. Five interceptions the week before will do that to you.
Yes, Tillman had those forced fumbles. Wonderful stripping. It almost makes up for the way Peanut was pantsed by the Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald last home game. (Speaking of being pantsed, Devin Hester literally was late in the game. As Blogshakalaka contributing editor Ed Williams noted, Hester's pants were pulled down by a chasing defender, revealing a "fourth quarter moon." Modesty forbids me from showing the freeze frame of that moment, but suffice it to say that this was one moment when Devin's dredlock's needed to be Lady Godiva-length.)
Anyway, the Eagles just had too much DeSean (Jackson) and LeSean (McCoy). DeSean caught a 48-yard TD pass and then did a layup with the ball over the crossbar. (Is this an Eagle thing? Donovan McNabb spiked it when the Eagles beat the Bears in the playoffs in 2001.) And LeSean ran in the winning TD. The Bears have neither a De nor a Le Sean. And if they had Keyshawn Johnson, Cutler would find a way to overthrow him, too.
After the game, the NBC camera showed McNabb and Cutler huddling, with McNabb giving Cutler a pep talk. Well, McNabb knows something about being in the middle of a controversy over whether he was overrated.
As bad as it's been for Cutler, he's still having a honeymoon, compared with what, say Jim Harbaugh went through here. But Harbaugh went on to get the Colts a pass away from a Super Bowl and now he's one of the hottest coaches in college (despite his Stanford team's loss to Cal yesterday).
So there is life after being a Bears quarterback. The problem is that Cutler is not going anywhere soon. He is going to be the Bears quarterback for years. And he will be in Minnesota next week when the Bears face Brett Favre as a Viking for the first time. All Favre did today was throw four touchdown passes. Cutler has been compared with Favre. The Favre whom Atlanta let get away to Green Bay, where he did struggle for a while. So see, there is hope.

We're loyal Bears fans, and coming from Detroit we've seen quarterbacks come and go. We've seen promising ones do poorly once coming here and then when traded do better in another city. The Bears now have a quarterback who was proven in Denver and now struggling. Seeing that Orton started out well as Denver's new quarterback, it begs the question(one that some in Detroit have asked)"Is the same thing happening to Chicago quarterbacks that happened to the Lion's? Is there something about these organizations that damage decent quarterbacks?" Both teams have seemed to be structurally sound but yet have trouble executing throughout the seasons.I hope I'm wrong, but each season of late has brought a new set of heartaches.
