Simply not good enough.  The Blackhawks dropped a 5-3 decision to the New York Islanders tonight.  Antti Niemi was pulled after surrendering three goals.  Huet wasn't much better.  They have both failed their auditions to be the starting goalie for the Hawks, so what happens next?

If tonight's game wasn't enough of a indicator that they need an upgrade in goal, nothing will be.  The Blackhawks have one weak link, and management must do what it takes to resolve the problem.

Yes, the asking price may be high, but the Hawks have to do everything they can to acquire one of the available starting goalies in the league.  Mainly, Tomas Vokoun on Jaroslav Halak.  It may take a lot, but this is the Hawks best chance at winning a cup, and they can't pass up that opportunity.  Fortunately, Hawks management knows that.  If a deal makes sense, and makes them better, they'll pull the trigger.

Nick Boynton

In other news, the Blackhawks acquired another defenseman tonight.  They traded perennial all star Future Considerations to the Ducks for Nick Boynton.  The Hawks immediately sent him down for Rockford.  That could mean they are simply building depth in case of an injury, or they could be preparing a package for a trade tomorrow.

Either way, Boynton is a reliable 6th or 7th defenseman who can play physical, and is a decent enough skater.  I'd bet we'll see him on the big club sooner or later.

Niemi might've had a bad night but he also had some help, like Seabrook's 5000th turnover since the New Year. And at least the shots on Niemi were either top shelf or through traffic. What's Huet's excuse on the Park goal?

The Florida Sun-Sentinel is reporting that Vokoun's likely staying put so that door appears closed. Not sure I trust Halak much more than Huet.
