From a 15 stitch gash in a players chin to a broken ankle held together simply by a tightly tied skate, players have put it all on the line for their sport.
Jonathan Toews is that kind of player.
On October 21st, he took a viscous, clean hit from Vancouver defenseman Willie Mitchell, and hasn't played since. The Hawks are calling it an "upper body injury." It's a concussion.

Have no doubts that Toews wants to play. If this was the playoffs, I bet he would be playing, but the Blackhawks organization is doing the right thing. They are taking their times getting their captain healthy.
Toews is far too valuable to the organization to risk his health long term. They won't let him come back until he's 100% healthy, and that's the right thing to do.
Let's hope the Hawks use the same caution with Marian Hossa and his shoulder. The injured winger has started skating with the team, and is expected to return at the end of November.
It will be very tempting to unwrap that shiny new toy and get him on the ice as soon as possible, but the Hawks have 12 years to enjoy his services.
The Hawks are 3-1 without Toews, and are good enough to get by for an extra week or two without Hossa.
Rest assured, the Hawks are on the same wavelength, and will take every precaution with their two star forwards.
