The 18-year old is 2-3 years away from any NHL ice time. That said, most research shows that many believe he can be a 2-way blueliner that logs 20+ minutes a game in the NHL.
Described as "tough guy" with a hard shot, it is hard to argue with the Blackhawks' selection. As is the case with all NHL draft entries, only time will tell.
Olsen has been compared to Dion Phaneuf, Shea Weber, and, during the Versus telecast, the Blackhawks own Cam Barker. I admit that Barker also came to mind when trying to describe Olsen's potential. There have been Barker trade rumors, but the selection of Olsen will have no immediate impact on Barker's future with the Blackhawks.
