Blackhawks Confidential

Hawks vs. Bluuuuues...

Scott-v-Janssen.jpg

Twas the night before St. Louis and Cam Janssen was down, how could he be happy, John Scott was in town...  Okay so maybe poetry isn't my thing. But it still feels like Christmas for Blackhawks fans.  Four straight convincing victories.  Hossa back in action.  Kane to return Tuesday (hopefully).  A good shelacking of the Blues is all that remains to get the bandwagon rolling into 2011.

Everyone knows Blues games are my favorite.  That's probably why I'm making the 287 mile trip to watch this one live from the Scottrade Center.  This rivalry is finally starting to form into what I always dreamt it would.  The players, fans, and to some extent the cities hate each other.  White Sox fans get a chance to see why we hate Cardinals fans.  Blues fans get a chance to see why we hate White Sox fans.  It all balances out into what will hopefully be 60 minutes of great hockey.

Both teams are hot of late.  The Hawks are looking for their 5th straight, the Blues their 4th.  I believe I read that Turco will be the guy in net.  I also read that #88 is eying his return.

Scott and Janssen headline the heavyweight card while Dowell/Backes and Boynton/Winchester potentially round out the middle weights.  If the game gets as hot as I'm hoping maybe Brouwer/Crombeen could go down as well.

But fighting aside, facing the Blues always seems to get Patrick Sharp riled up.  I've seen him fight McKee, get leveled by Weaver, talk tons of smack, and animate his goal celebrations like never before.  I think he might be the Hawk closest to me in terms of hatred for the Blues.

Kane and Toews are hit or miss vs St. Louis.  Barrett "the hack" Jackman will certainly be up to his normal cowardice.  Slashes, cross checks, face washes, and elbows are certainly in the forecast.  How Kane and Toews respond usually plays a large factor in the decision of the game.

And don't forget about Hossa.  Surely everyone remembers his work in front of the net earlier this year in Chicago.

All that being considered, I hope the Hawks realize the importance of this game.  It sort of has the feeling of a trap game.  Hawks think they're rolling and they run into a desperate Blues team and take a beating.  I hope that's not the case.

I'm going to be bold and say 6-3 Hawks.  Big return for Kaner, 2 goals and an assist.

Enjoy the game!  I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!  If things go according to plan tomorrow night we will all have more to celebrate on New Years!

Think the bandwagon tipped over with that effort.

The Blues will be another obstacle to getting in the playoffs.
