Okay, the company line is that the White Sox are still in the hunt for October. That's the obvious comment seeing as no team appears to have the juice to run away with the division right now.
But no matter which side of the fence you are on here, if moves are made players leave from BOTH SIDES! As rumors begin to swirl about interest in Jermaine Dye, with actual teams names and needs attached to them, Sox fans will have to face the fact that even in a buyers position, Dye may go.

I have already speculated on the potential trade chips on the Big League roster in a previous blog, but what exactly are the Sox looking for?

I think the big wildcard is the health of Quentin. If he's healthy by the end of July and the Giants are still in WC contention then Dye could be moved for some Giant prospects (and they have a bunch of them). Dye will command 2 draft picks in the 2010 draft if the Sox don't trade him and let him become a free agent so they can demand a high price.
I'm sure Rowand and Uribe are telling Giant's GM Brain Sabean that JD would be a great fit for them.

You're correct. If they feel Quentin can come back and stay healthy throughout the season, they have an easier time making that big move...which as I've said before I'll hate. The Giants have top notch young arms that could be had. They will be hard pressed to catch the Dodgers once Rapunzel Ramirez gets back, but the wild card is up for grabs and with their starting pitching they could make a long playoff run.

Jack,
You can't be a seller if your selling Jermaine Dye. He is by far and away the best hitter on the team, and their will be no division championship without him. Trading J.D. for younger players, is flat out saying they have no chance of catching the tigers or the twins. What does Kenny Williams do? I personally have no idea what he should do. I think the best thing to do would be to go after Brian Roberts. He is a big upgrade from Getz and Roberts gives them more versatility on top of the order. Therefore, A. Ramirez can hit in the 7th hole where he belongs.

I agree about the Dye dilemma, and agree I don't know what to do. I think we both would have a better idea if we were in Williams position and we're actually seeing the packages the Sox were being offered. But let's say Quentin gets healthy and there's an incredible package for Dye? Would you take it? And how crazy would it be if the Sox ended up playing the Giants (or whoever they may trade Dye to) in the World Series? That's what makes this so intriguing. Not sure of the Orioles would give up Roberts, but maybe for Getz and another one of the prospects and a young arm?

We may already have the pieces we need with TCQ coming off the DL and perhaps Poreda joining the rotation. That being said, you can never have enough pitching and I think that's what Kenny goes after if he goes after anything at all.

It is true that the pieces may already be there. The story remains, what can we still get and remain a similar team with a deeper minor league system??? And what are the future plans for Dye? Are two draft picks better than a trade package, or should we keep him, hope the mutual option works out and then go from there?

Just like in 05, i think they should go for nothing. We don't need anything other than everyone to perform to their normal, don't even need anyone to go into a career year mode. For god's sake, keep Dye, we don't have a more consistant hitter. Roberts would be nice, but i believe the last time Kenny inquired about him they wanted Alexei, Gavin, and Danks, thankfully Kenny told them to stick it.
