Show some cousinly love this Thanksgiving

Dear Mel,
Thanksgiving is coming up, and my family always throws a huge dinner party to celebrate. Every year, I feel bored and whiney because I don't have anyone to talk to. I am a junior girl, and my cousins are all middle school boys. I'm too old to run around with them and play airsoft, but I'm too young to sit in with the adults. What should I do? I don't want to have a sucky Thanksgiving.

Dear Oldest Girl,
I'm a junior, too. And all of my cousins are younger than me. They're all boys. So, I've learned how to love my family despite the age and gender differences.
First off, who says you're too old to play airsoft? Whenever I'm hanging out with my cousins, we have a blast. We jump on the trampoline, play Halo, and ride ATV's. Trust me, you're never too old to have fun. Don't sulk in the corner. Hang out with your cousins and laugh.
Also, why can't you sit with the adults? At my family parties, we always have a kids' table and an adults' table. I usually eat dinner at the kiddie table and then migrate over to the adult table for dessert. Your family loves you for you, so don't feel inferior. Fill up on turkey with the younger kids, and then sip some coffee with the over-21 crowd.
Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for what we've been blessed with. You should be thankful for the people in your life. Smile and be fully present to your family this Thursday. After all, how can you not be happy when there's pumpkin pie?
-Mel

You're totally right mel - all things can be solved by pie. :)
Appreciating the hilarity of younger cousins sounds awesome. My family is all older, so we have to sit around and be intellectual. Also, where do you ride ATV's?

At my cousins' farm in Lake Geneva. It's sweet.

I am in the same position as both of you and mel, that's exactly what I do! I eat with the kids then have some nice dessert and partake in some intellectual convos with the adults. It works great!!
