Get rid of those unrealistic expectations
Dear Mel,
I'm currently reading the book "Dear John" by Nicholas Sparks. (Haven't read it? You should- it's so good!) But anyways the book is about a girl & a soldier and how they fall in love. I have decided that I want to date and someday marry a soldier. So where do you think I could go for vacation to meet a soldier?
-Holding Out for a Hero
Dear Holding Out for a Hero,
Umm...
I don't really know of any soldier hot-spots. So I can't help you there.
But, just because a solider is really great in a novel doesn't mean that all soldiers are romantics. Don't get me wrong, though. The men who fight for our countries are definitely heroes. Their strength and bravery is admirable, to say the very least.
However, you need to broaden your horizons. If you decide now that you won't settle for anyone less than a hero, then your expectations are way too high. In the end, unrealistic expectations will just make you bitter and depressed.
So get your head out of the clouds. Fiction is not real. Sure, you might meet your husband one day, and he might happen to be a solider. But, you shouldn't set your mind on that goal.
You can go to military bases and chase soldiers. Or, you can wait for the right guy to come to you. Take your pick.
-Mel
