Chicago Firefighter Christopher Wheatley died in the line of duty on August 9, 2010, while fighting a fire at Avec restaurant. He was 31 years old, and had been with the Chicago Fire Department since 2001.
He left behind his parents, a sister and a fiance.
In addition to performing his duties as a firefighter, Wheatley also taught classes at the Clinical Performance Center, part of the UIC College of Medicine. He will be laid to rest this morning.
My condolences go out to members of his family, his friends, and his brother and sister firefighters.
Once again I'm reminded of how grateful I am that there are people in this world who dedicate their lives to helping others, even when it means taking risks and facing dangers that the rest of us would rather avoid.
