Last month I had a little back-and-forth with Megan Cottrell of One Story Up. We talked about issues surrounding Section 8 public housing vouchers. Megan started it:

NIMBY: if not your backyard, then whose?

I responded:

Section 8: helping the poor, or dispersing urban crime?

Finally (or so I thought) Megan shot back with:

Do white families deserve the crime section 8 tenants bring with them?

Megan has invited me to continue the discussion with her on the air Tuesday morning at 9:00am. You can listen at 89.5 FM or get the streaming audio at Vocalo.org. Megan has been running a series of conversations about public housing this month.

Will we continue to phrase all of our points in the form of a question? Tune in and find out.

I would like to address the city leaders of Chicago, Ill after viewing tthe clip of the beating of Derrion Alber, I was very hurt. I am convinced that black males are afraid of each other more than any law official (police. This young man (Derrion) was a honor student trying to become a sucessful future leader of society. Did it take the horrible beating of this teen for city leaders to wake up? Stop talking about what needs to be done and do something. Our black teens are diminishing quckly. Teen voilence is increasing by the moment. Create teen programs, educate parents, support groups, tougher laws on teen violence are just a few solutions. Don't let teen violence take over this great nation. We as parents, educators, and mentors need to instill values in our children before their teen-age years.

Hi Joe,

First Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Next I tried listen to your broadcast yesterday and it was walked all over by a stronger station. What I did hear was a good exchange of information. Glad you are kind of our advocate and devil's advocate, keep up the good work.

To djustice violent death at any age is tragic and more people like yourself need to do just as you are describing. Don't just talk the talk, be involved yourself. Our young people, that have a good head start like you toward doing the right thing are our best hope for reaching the lost ones.
