Chalkie heads south!

It's been 3 weeks since we got the news that the 2016 Olympics will be held in Rio, and not in Chicago.    Many stunned Chicago 2016 boosters asked themselves why.  Was it the corruption?  The videotaped beating death of Derrion Albert?  Anti-American sentimentWhat was it that doomed Chicago's bid?

After the events of the past week, at least we can be reasonably certain that Chicago wasn't rejected because of our crime.  We are lightweights in the street crime department compared to Rio.

According to this article in the Daily Mail, more than 25 people have been killed in recent gang violence.  The body of one victim was left in a shopping cart, where passers-by could stop and stare:

You thought the videotaped beating of Derrion Albert or the Uptown mini-riot made Chicago look bad?  Last week four police officers were killed, and a police helicopter was shot down, during a running gun battle between police and gang members in Rio:

Evidently Chicago's former mascot Chalkie is a big fan of Tropicália and cachaça, and will soon be heading south if he hasn't already.  Bon voyage, Chalkie!

Yeah, a friend at work pointed out, when they announced Rio over Chicago, that we're pikers here when it comes to street crime, compared to Rio.

Well, at least they've got all those almost-naked people dancing around all the time...

When the opponents of the Olympics kept giving our crime as a reason to be against the games, I laughed because we have nothing on Rio. It is going to be fun to sit back and watch.
