The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial marked its 18th anniversary with a wreath-laying ceremony today.
25 years ago President Reagan signed Public Law 98-534, which authorized the establishment of a memorial honoring the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial was dedicated in Washington, DC on October 15, 1991. At the time of its dedication there were 12,668 names on the memorial. Since then nearly 6,000 more names have been added, with the oldest recorded line-of-duty death occurring in 1792.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) started a campaign earlier this month, called "Will Always Remember". It's a photo tribute campaign meant to show the family and friends of fallen officers that their sacrifice is remembered.
