In West Chicago. At least 19 of them by my count. And they did an outstanding job bringing a dangerous situation to a safe ending.
Great job by the unnamed 2-year West Chicago PD officer who spotted the VW Jetta driven by bank robber Robert Maday. Right now not a lot is known about how, exactly, Maday was able to disarm two investigators and escape, and it's not known what he did or where he went between yesterday afternoon and the carjacking in Hoffman Estates this morning. I'll wait before offering up any opinions until I know more.
So far, for me, the highlight of this entire episode (other than the fact that no civilians or police were hurt) was getting to see this picture:
What good is having high-speed, low-drag operators in ghillie suits on your SWAT team if you can't deploy them? Here we see one blending into the surroundings at a suburban apartment complex. I suppose they didn't have a uniform made of realistic styrofoam bricks.
I commented to a coworker, an enthusiastic firearms instructor, that I thought this might be a little...much. He got angry.
"What are you talking about? I ONLY SEE ONE OFFICER IN THAT PICTURE."

Someone told me they were rooting for him to escape and it took all I could muster not to kick him in the nuts.
I think that police officer has a cousin in the UK. http://is.gd/3qHm3

No kidding! Do you think the guy in the UK has given any children nightmares while he's in that getup?

I was glad to see he'd been caught too, without loss of life. And I got a big laugh out of that picture when I saw it today.

If English kids are anything like my kids? Not only do they think that suit is WAY COOL, they are running around the house looking for ways to reconstruct one for themselves.

Fantastic job by our police officers! I'm just wondering, that interesting picture you pointed out. Are you sure that wasn't Cousin Itt from the Addams Family?
