In May, Chicago Police Officer Densey Cole crashed his department vehicle, and was robbed of his service weapon while trapped in the wreckage. Officer Cole suffered a spinal cord injury, which was aggravated by his being moved by the offender during the robbery. 22 year old Rasaan Shannon was subsequently arrested and charged, and is awaiting trial. Officer Cole has transferred to a rehab center in Denver, Colorado to begin his recovery.
Stories like Officer Coles' tend to fade from public view after a few days. The story first grabs attention because of the shock of the incident itself, and then because of the arrest of a suspect. There might be another page 18 mention once a trial begins.
