Northbrook man makes top 10 stupid criminals list

Police Link just released their top 10 "Dumbest Criminals of the Year" list, and a Northbrook man earned a spot on the list:

A Northbrook man who was warned not to drive after he called police to a tavern to help two sick women was arrested on a DUI charge, authorities said.

John Knox, 38, of the 2400 block of Maple Avenue made the call to police about 1 a.m. Sunday. Emergency vehicles responded to the scene near Walters and Western Avenues and a police officer, who warned Knox not to drive, helped direct traffic, police said.

The officer then saw Knox driving away from the bar in the wrong lane with no lights on, police said. He was cited for DUI and having no taillights.

Not surprisingly, alcohol was also a factor in several of the other stories.

Did Knox help direct traffic?

Whatever happened to designated drivers (cf. celebrities similarly busted and mouthing off)? Or taxis?

I was warned once and learned my lesson. First, be courteous to police. Second, make a change.

My dad sat my brothers and down when we were young and explained how it worked: cops deal with assholes all the time. Politeness goes a long way with them. "Yes sir, no sir" and no attitude.
