Couple Taking Bath Together
Technology is a pretty big thing lately. As an avid Blackberry user and fan, I will admit that I love that I have access to everything anytime I want. I also have to add that I am pretty good with keeping it balanced - I put it away on dates and limit its use when I am with family. Which is why I was really surprised when a friend sent me an article about how one in ten people (under the ripe old age old 25) would not mind being interrupted by a text message during sex.

Apparently this data comes from a 1,000 person survey that was done this past March. The survey found that roughly 11 percent of people under the age of 25 wouldn't mind this interruption during the deed and 6 percent over the age of 25 wouldn't mind it either.

Now sure, those numbers seem small in comparison to the 33 percent (under the age of 25) and 62 percent (over the age of 25) that said they don't like interruptions at all. Though wait a second people, we are talking about sex here right?

I take this to mean two things a.) people are becoming too into this technology thing and b.) the meaning of sex is thoroughly declining.

Clearly I understand that sex is not always a magical moment between two people who are insanely in love with each other, but it is still an intimate moment between two people that you are, theoretically, enjoying. I'm not sure how I would feel if I was doing it with a guy and his phone went off and he stopped to reach over and grab it. Though, I am pretty sure that might be the point where the sex is over and he can kindly put his clothes back on and leave.

Honestly, if you aren't being entertained enough during sex to ignore the phone then that kind of speaks for itself right? As a side note here, this has never happened to me (knock on wood) so I would like to think I am entertaining enough.

Coincidentally I just had a conversation with a friend the other day about answering the phone during sex. He posed the question: what if it's an emergency? Obviously if someone is in trouble you would want to help them though I highly doubt when you are grabbing for the phone you think gee this could be an emergency and I should answer (your mind should probably be on the task at hand). So I still say put the phone down and check your messages when it's over. If it's an all night sexcapade wait until there is at least a little break (come on, everyone needs breaks).

This is depressing. 10%? Either way you look at it, they're in love with the technology or the sex is not that significant, it's bleak. Then again, these are probably the same people who never sit around a table and enjoy a real meal with anyone, either.

I totally agree with you, Joe. It is extremely depressing in either case. It makes me wonder what's going to happen next. There are some things that you can really put the phone down for.

Not if you're recording with your phone.

Hah! That's really not the same thing as being interrupted by a text message.

You're right. I have pocket called my parents during sex but that is a different story. The pic is great! Looks like its out of a Lover's Lane or Sybarrus commercial.

Yeh this freaks me out. Granted, I've answered the phone during foreplay, but I was specifically waiting for an emergency call. Otherwise it's just sad.

Yeah, I would say an emergency is definitely a totally different story. I agree, it is really sad. And even more sad to think about that percentage going up (let's not though really).
