Important life question. Please respond.

Do you think it is OK that if a parent is not in his or her child's life at all, that when that child has her own child, that long-lost parent decides he/she wants to be in that grandchild's life. And not only that, the long-lost parent wants to be called grandpa/grandma?

Taking a poll here, please play along.

Sorry that I'm just now weighing in. I suppose it's ultimately up to the child of the absentee parent, but I say no. I think being a grandparent is earned, and if they couldn't be bothered to be a parent, then they don't get the chance to be a grandparent.
