Musical.ly is a hugely popular app among tweens and teens. It can be a lot of fun and a chance to be creative and have fun, which is great, but as with all apps, there are some things to be aware of prior to using it.
Here's what parents need to know about Musical.ly.
Like most apps, Musical.ly is continually changing and evolving. These screens may not be identical to what you see after updates, but it gives you an overall idea of what the app involves.
The dynamic nature of apps and social media in general are reasons why it's important to have general guidelines and rules that apply to your kid's social media usage, across all devices and platforms. It's also reminder to check in periodically and to keep the conversation going.
Musical.ly recently added live streaming, and I was really happy to learn about that from my daughter. She knows that I have opinions on live streaming and wanted to know what I thought of it on Musical.ly. It was a sign to me that the conversation is going both ways, which thrills me.
Finally, if your kid is on Musical.ly, make a video with them. It's silly, and a fun way to connect with your kids as well as see how Musical.ly works. You can also use it as an opportunity to show them that you don't have to share every single video you make.
