I'm in the mood for a funny movie about parenting a tween daughter and I only have to wait until June until the Pixar film Inside Out is released. It seems a little far away, but Pixar released the trailer several month ago and I was reminded of how excited I am about the movie when I saw the Inside Out Puppy Bowl ad that aired on Super Bowl Sunday.
Inside Out movie focuses on Riley, an 11-year-old tween girl whose family just moved from the Midwest to San Francisco for her dad's new job.
The movie asks the question, "Do you ever look at someone and wonder what is going on inside their head?"
If you live with a tween, the answer to that question is, "All the freakin' time."
Riley, like all of us, is guided by her emotions, including Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, and where things get rough with the adjustment to a new city, house, and school.
As Forbes noted, Inside Out "is yet another high-profile animated release centering on a female protagonist, a modern-day, explicitly non-princess one no-less." I'm excited for that fact, but also the fact that it seems like Riley's family closely mirrors mine, and goodness knows there is a ton of humor to be mined from the tween parenting experience.
It also seems like the movie is in good hands. Inside Out is written and co-directed by Pete Docter, who won an Academy Award for “Up." (Please don't bring up that opening sequence, my tear ducts can't take it.) It will be Pixar’s first original film since Brave in 2012.
The film opens June 19th, 2015, and as the Puppy Bowl ad shows, Pixar is building buzz now. You can see the trailer here:
Are you excited to see Inside Out?
(In case you're wondering, this post isn't sponsored. I'm just excited for the movie and all this snow on the ground in the Midwest has me looking forward to June.)
