Who is in your army of saints?

When I found this complete prayer to St. Monica, I printed it out and taped it to cardboard. I keep it in my Magnificat. St. Monica was my BFF for a long time. She answered my prayers with the help of her son, St. Augustine.
Who is in your army of saints? I have seven that I have been praying to for their intercession in certain circumstances over the past two years. Most people pray to one saint for a specific intention that’s related to that saint’s expertise. I decided to combine forces and add other saints. Though not all... Read more »

Dearest Mother: Notes to Our Blessed Mother

While going through my phone, I found a couple of “notes to our Blessed Mother.” Spend some time today writing her a couple of “notes.” I’m sure she would appreciate it. Please join me and other Catholics (and some not-so-Catholics!) on my Facebook page and on Twitter. Type your email address in the box and click... Read more »

A Different Kind of Mother's Day Prayer

Dearest Mother, You came to me through your Son, quietly and gently. You let me know that the years I endured with my earthly mother meant something. That my suffering was not in vain and had a purpose. The layers of hurt, rage and grief were carefully peeled away to expose the mother I had... Read more »

May is the Month We Celebrate Mary

Where would we be without Mary as our Mother? Adam didn’t have a mother, and look at all the trouble that got him into. When we experience excruciating pain or fear, the person we cry out for is our mother. What if we did not have the Mother of God to cry out to? We... Read more »

"Of Her Was Born Jesus"

Mary is the woman who does not see herself, unless it be in Christ and, through him, in humanity; by giving birth to Jesus, who is the Son of God and the Son of Man, she gave birth to humanity. In the fiat of the Annunciation is the adherence of every one of us. That... Read more »

The Immaculate Conception

The first mystery of mercy is the Immaculate Conception, the prevenient mercy of the Father toward his little child … This haste of love that anticipates allows us to “touch” the Father’s mercy. There is always haste in mercy. When we see someone next to us suffering or crying, we feel sorry for him and... My Three Blessings

Lately I’ve been feeling nostalgic. I see babies in church and in stores and it brings back a flood of memories of my three children. I was a stay at home mom. My husband and I were in our early 30’s when we got married and we had hoped to have children right away. I... Read more »

His Mother Waited Patiently For Me

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and... Read more »

Girls Night Out

When I really want to learn something and restore my soul, I do what a lot of women do: Girls Night Out. We get together once a month. We are wives, mothers, daughters, daughters-in-law and aunts. We were drawn together by our grade school children and participation in school and church activities. Those children are... Dearest Mother

Yesterday I inadvertently ignored Our Lady with my profound blog on what I really wanted for Christmas. I didn’t realize it was the feast day of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I am an idiot. Usually in the morning I read the daily readings, so I would have...
