I always have the best intentions when Lent starts out, don't you? I try to keep it simple, so that I don't get overwhelmed or end up just being frustrated, but I am just not into Lent this year.
I don't know why. I just don't have any ambition for it. No excuses, just an attitude that I can't describe. I started out with reasonable expectations, but I just lost interest.
I hope I'm not alone here, so I decided to give myself a pep talk with visuals, to get my spirit motivated and perhaps help someone else who feels as I do.
Even though I am just not into Lent this year, that may be the whole point: to do things I really don't want to do so I can truly grow in faith. To overcome my sloth and get back to nourishing my soul every day.
Sunday's Collect says it best:
Grant, almighty God, through the yearly observances of Holy Lent, that we may grow in understanding of the riches hidden in Christ and by worthy conduct pursue their effects. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
How do you motivate yourself when you are just not into Lent?
